Wouldn't it be a lot easier if you could get their MAC address for their HD or router, then they'd have to buy new hardware to get back on (or web cafe's).

I looked into this a few years ago, can't remember all the in's and out's but the general consensus was no.

I just did a quick Google and found a small thread on VB:http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=53150

It seems even if it where possible, you may still ban unsuspecting users if not careful.

I'm not a guru on this though, I just had a problem with an idiot a few years ago, and needed to stop him being a pest. I found a solution though, the Police, shortly after he stopped. But thats no good for tackling people in other countries (The police I mean, mind you there not always that much cop here either, lol).
Kind Regards.

I know it goes without saying, but first make your back up.

If you have phpMyAdmin, then you should be able to select the tables, and then at the bottom should be a drop down box, in there are options such as 'Check Tables', 'Repair Tables' and 'Analyse Tables'.

You can repair them from there if required.

If your going to remove the user as Catz suggested, then if possible get the UID, normally in the url of their profile.

Or if you know their username (which I think you said you did), then you can always do a search on the users table.

_users

Hope this is of some use.
Kind Regards.

AFAIK it's pretty standard moderator protocol to delete posts that are spam.

There's no way a link to the site should remain on X.O. It's a good back-link from a high-ranking site for them and useless to us.

I agree, my link to McAfee, is so users can tell the world this site spams, it's gives them the rating they deserve.

People using McAfee Site Adviser have a little icon in the bottom of their browser, when they visit websites, it tells them whether the site is bad or not by going green or red.

Sites that spam, contain viruses, hackers, etc, etc, then go Red. Search results in search engines will also tell the user next to them what type of site it is.

So my post was about leaving a review and warning other web uses.

Anyway if a link has some relevance then it should stay, but this link in question didn't at all, and yes should be removed with the spammer as well.
Kind Regards.

If you guys wish then reviews can be left at:

McAfee SiteAdviser

This will perhaps warn other users that this site Spams, even if your not a McAfee user, google will possibly bring these results up to advise others.

As for IP banning, no I don't think believe so, unless it's proven to be hackers, or spam bot IP's, imagine if you ban a proxy IP for a whole network, your not just punishing one, your punishing potentially many users.

IP bans should be the last resort.

Is it essential that it's a XOOPS module?

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post this as it's non-XOOPS related, but there is another project called RouncCube, I really like their work, it is of course a webmail project:

http://roundcube.net

It's GPL also.

I use this for my E-mail users, it's more efficient for me, and I've never had issues with it so far, but it depends on what your looking for.

Hope this maybe of some help.

If your looking for something integrated with the one login for XOOPS, then I'm afraid I think the only solutions are those you've already tried.
Kind Regards.

I'd actually recommend the D3Forum module, much more secure (Cbb/Newbb has issues some regarding security).

http://xoops.peak.ne.jp/

I've not used ForumEx, ins't that the same as newbbex, from Instant zero?

http://xoops.instant-zero.com/modules/pages/index.php?pagenum=3

If so, what is it you don't like about it, it's just normally Hervé's work is spot on.

Newbbex was based much on Newbb which is now CBB, I'd imagine the databases would be similar so transfer the data shouldn't be too difficult, I wouldn't know without looking at the two though.

If they are similar it should be too much work, but you will still need to get your hands dirty.
Kind Regards.

Rob,

I'm going to send you my msn via PM, I don't use this address for anything other than MSN messenger, so please don't send E-mails as they won't be answered there.

Once your on MSN with me, we can go through it a little more and see if we can find a solution for you.

Take care
Tom.

I just saw in another post, the D3 module, I forgot about this one, but it's definitely worth a try.

You can sample it here:http://www.nhatban.net/info/a0021.html

I want to create a simple website about a game.
Registration is not allowed in this website.

In the admin go to:

System --> Preferences --> User Info Settings

Then turn off registrations 'Allow new user registration?'.

Quote:
First, I want the layout design of the website.
I want that on top there will be a horizental meny, with some images in it or around it.
How do I create such a menu and the graphics sorrounding it?
Do I need to download a module for it?
Do I need to change the block template code of the main menu block in the system module?
Do I need to create a theme for it?

If your talking about navigation in the theme and images around the theme, then you will need to do with a custom theme, or edit an existing one.

If your talking about the main menu and customising menus like that then consider a module called multi-menu, by Solo:

http://dev.xoops.org/modules/xfmod/project/?multimenu

Quote:
Now, lets say I want to create a download page which can be selected in the main menu.
I beleive this page needs to be a module, but I think it needs to be a custom module.
I was able to create my own module which simply present an HTML content, I read it somewhere.
Why I say this?
Because I will want both downloads, both some text to explain about downloads, and both comments about the downloads.
How do I achieve this? Is there a module that do all that?
Or do I need to create a module of an HTML, and inside the HTML it will be possible to present sub modules some how?

You could do it your way, but that would require more manual labour over time, or you could look at a downloads module, personally I prefer WF-Downloads which is now being developed over at the smart factory, there are of course others too which are very good.

You can find WF-Downloads along with some other fantastic modules for content management over athttp://smartfactory.ca/

You can of course edit the templates the module uses, should you wish to have something more custom.

Smart Factory also has Smart Sections, which is good for content management and allows you to include html files too.

There's also Articles by DJ -http://xoopsforge.com/ (for article management) And Mastop Publish for more simple content pages:http://www.mastop.com.br/produtos/publish/index_en.php

Hope this is of some help.
Kind Regards.

This link may also give you some pointers too:

Quick tutorial - integrating XOOPS Comments

Have you also looked at other modules to see how they make the intergration?
