Another dumb question:

Currently XOOPS html folder is in www folder in the remote server so when I enter the www.mydomain.com url it doesnt go to the XOOPS site directly.

How do I make it go directly to the XOOPS site ? Should I upload all the XOOPS files directly into the www folder ?

~Nevermind~

The ftp client was timing out before the XOOPS files were uploaded completely.

Easiest way to customise is to take any existing template which is close to what you want and modify it. You can change colors, images etc and make it appear as though it is a custom design for your website.

Well, thats a good way to start off without spending money. While the site is up and running you can experiment with other designs on your local server and introduce it after you are satisfied with it.

Remember even a portal like MSN started off with an old design which now may appear insipid compared to the new designs. Almost all sites evolve from basic designs to more advanced levels which even have more sophisticated softwares.

Hi,

This is my first attempt installing XOOPS on a remote server. [Had no problems installing on a local LAMP environment]

Xoops version 2.0.7.3
Operating system Linux
Apache version 1.3.33 (Unix)
PHP version 4.3.10
MySQL version 4.0.22-standard-log

When I try to open the install/index.php file I am getting the message : 'no language file' instead of the usual XOOPS installation start page.

What am I doing wrong ?

I think there is an ongoing discussion on the Realty ,module here.

https://xoops.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=27384&viewmode=flat&order=ASC&start=10

BTW if you are having problems opening the realty.rar file then I recommend WinRar from www.rarlab.com Maybe there are others in Sourceforge.net

I wish XOOPS Developers will atleast consider reducing the size of the module icons in Admin

Its nice and big but a little too gross especially when you have too many modules installed.

Narrow thin lables maybe color coded for different types of modules would be prefered.

I tried Tigra javascript menu from SoftComplex.Com and liked it because its quite simple to create & edit.

http://www.softcomplex.com/products/tigra_menu/

There is a menu builder which can be download for free.

http://www.softcomplex.com/products/tigra_menu_w32_builder/

And this post may help you more if you run into problems.

If you have already tried it then I apologies for wasting your time. Wish You A Happy New Year

Hi,

I thought the one major module missing in XOOPS is a full fledged auctions module.

I came across this phpBB auctions which seems to be pretty impressive [looking at the demo]

http://www.phpbb-auction.com/

I have also heard of phpAuctions included as a Nuke module

I dont know about licensing terms of these for XOOPS module development but is there a possibility of a full fledged auctions module ?

I dont know if this is possible but how about including a home page in XOOPS default installation with a site map to all FAQs and other help pages in Xoops. So that when a user installs XOOPS the first thing he will see is the home page with a sitemap to all the FAQs and other help pages.

Good points are raised but a common problem is most forums.

I have made use of the signature space to place some useful links so that others may notice them and read more. It is also a good reminder for an idiot like me
