Does no one have an idea of where I should be looking for this? I have complete control over this server so I can get any diagnostics, make any changes, whatever is required!

Please help!

:)

Thanks for this! Solved the 3-line issue but I wonder if the reason it often needs a 'refresh' to make it fit on a page is known?

Thanks!

Just to make you feel better (or worse?) I am experience what I think is the same thing. The read flags do not go to 'read' status on forums I have just replied to unless I go and read my own replies. Frustrating to the point where I only use the 'view unread topics' pulldown...

The NewBB2 'Recent Topics' block I have centered on the home page of my site. Using IE it appears to work 'most of the time' except I have users that complain it is now double spaced (3 lines per entry - the little 'icon1.gif' mood icons take up a line of their own)

However, in Firefox (what all we right-on admins should be using!) it intermittently shows up as very wide - causing scrolling to get to the right-hand menu. Is this Firefox or the block?

Thanks,

Bassclef

First off I want to say congrats - this forum module is head and shoulders above the old one. However, I seem to have a problem with SOME of my users, and brace yourself, it's an odd one!

First, it seems to vary from user to user (NOT username on site, but human to human). They cannot post or rarely can they post. The symptoms are USUALLY an error "Already Submitted" when they try to reply or post a new topic. Occaisionally, they get:

Quote:

An Error Occured
SELECT t.*, u.name, u.uname,u2.name as last_post_name, u2.uname as last_poster, p.post_time as last_post_time, p.poster_name as last_poster_name, p.icon, p.post_id FROM xoops_bb_topics t LEFT JOIN xoops_users u ON u.uid = t.topic_poster LEFT JOIN xoops_bb_posts p ON p.post_id = t.topic_last_post_id LEFT JOIN xoops_users u2 ON u2.uid = p.uid WHERE (p.post_time > 1095783589 OR t.topic_sticky=1) AND t.forum_id = AND t.approved = 1 AND p.approved = 1 ORDER BY t.topic_sticky DESC, p.post_time DESC
If the page does not automatically reload, please click here

Some of my users are reporting that it happens if they type longer messages, although the smarter of them have guessed it's not the length of the message, but the length of time between starting a new message and hitting 'submit'!

Other users are getting the normal 'Thanks for your submission' message but the message does NOT get posted!

I have backed up the database, run a complete repair (myisamchk) and started back up - no change.

I have turned on full MySQL logging, this is so verbose that although I can find the spots where users are successful (INSERT INTO xoops_bb_posts/xoops_bb_posts_text) I cannot see where they are unsuccessful except by their absence.

Help help help?!?!

Thank you,

Bassclef

P.S. These same users are all able to post comments on articles and pictures in MyAlbum etc etc - the problem only seems to appear in Forum)

Can anyone tell me why this theme (doggie) doesn't work with the newbb v2? The pull-down menus are permanently pulled down and it looks awful - the source looks identical to that of another few themes I am using - and I am not an expert in HTML and all the new nifty flaovours thereof.

Thank you,

Bassclef

It should also (?) be able to distinguish between users? Maybe that would be the way to make it individual - labelled soandso@Axoops_NewBBLastVisitTemp

Replying to my own post....

Never mind! After looking closer at the problem - I am really at a loss as to why the newbb module uses cookies at all - they are problematical, aren't stored under a user name (two people on the same machine/profile share read flags!) and of course are completely dependent on people allowing them in the first place. The data stored is minimal (at least on my site) - a few hundred characters per cookie. Can't this data be moved wholesale into a new column in the user table, or a new table added for newbb referencing the user table?

Thanks,

Marc

I have since installed two modules:

Uservisit 2.1b
Blockutils 1

I think Uservisit gives me just about everything I could want, except a nice block to show simple logins'. There are no blocks at all, in fact. It's great for admins however, and nearly what I wanted. Black utils does have the feature of showing last logins and 'lost' users - which I guess is the other half I was looking for in uservisit - so I am officially 'mostly happy'!

Seeing as my entry in Q&A got not replies - I am assuming that the read/unread flag on messages is stored in the users's computer as a cookie. I think it would be a better idea (read: feature request!) to store the flags in the database. This way when people use multiple computers (not uncommon, work/home...etc) the user does not have to update each computer separately.

Thanks!
