Seeing as my entry in Q&A got not replies - I am assuming that the read/unread flag on messages is stored in the users's computer as a cookie. I think it would be a better idea (read: feature request!) to store the flags in the database. This way when people use multiple computers (not uncommon, work/home...etc) the user does not have to update each computer separately.

Thanks!

Replying to my own post....

Never mind! After looking closer at the problem - I am really at a loss as to why the newbb module uses cookies at all - they are problematical, aren't stored under a user name (two people on the same machine/profile share read flags!) and of course are completely dependent on people allowing them in the first place. The data stored is minimal (at least on my site) - a few hundred characters per cookie. Can't this data be moved wholesale into a new column in the user table, or a new table added for newbb referencing the user table?

Thanks,

Marc
