I think you may have misunderstood the reason for my post: I know XOOPS has a Privacy Policy for this web site---I was simply submitting a "generic" privacy policy that XOOPS users can use for their own XOOPS sites.

This isn't a hack (wasn't sure where to post this) but a generic privacy policy that XOOPS users may find useful to include under the "xoopsfaq" module. We have ours listed as the last question under this module---"Privacy Policy" as the 'category' and "Your Privacy At XXXXXX.com" as the 'question'. The text (with bb code/url) below would be the 'answer':


Introduction

MY COMPANY respects each individual’s right to personal privacy. We will collect and use information through our web site only in the ways disclosed in this statement. This statement applies solely to information collected at MY COMPANY’s web site.

Part I. Information Collection and Security

MY COMPANY only collects information on our web site submitted by registered users. Such information may include user-submitted news and events, uploaded photos, private messages and forum posts. The information is collected by the voluntary submittal of such by registered users.

MY COMPANY's web site employs the use of "cookies". A cookie is a small text file that our web server places on a user’s computer hard drive to be a unique identifier. Cookies enable MY COMPANY to track usage patterns and deliver customized content to users. Our cookies do not collect personally identifiable information.

MY COMPANY does not divulge any personally identifiable information about registered users or MY COMPANY members to outside parties for any reason (with the exception of a request made for such information [which is legally warranted and presented in person] by an official law enforcement official or agency).

For COPPA compliance (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act), MY COMPANY asserts that its web site contains nothing designed, displayed or formatted to attract, influence, interest or solicit anyone under the age of eighteen. MY COMPANY memberships are available only to individuals 18 and older.

Part II. Information Usage.

The information collected by MY COMPANY is used for the purposes of this web site only. Registered users may receive additional announcements from us about site news, events, private messages, uploaded photos, forum posts and web site updates. Out of respect for the privacy of our registered users we present the option to not receive these types of communications.

We do offer links to other web sites. Please note: When you click on links to other web sites, we encourage you to read their privacy policies. Their standards may differ from ours.

Because our web site also offers forums, user-submitted news and events, and a photo gallery, please be advised that information posted in these venues becomes public knowledge with the submittal of any information or images contained therein.

We reserve the right to update our web site privacy policy without notice. We reserve the right to remove user-submitted information or images without user consent or notice. We also reserve the right to add or remove site features without notice.

Part III. Access to Information

MY COMPANY maintains the accuracy of our web site's information with daily updates. Users may access their own personal information and contact us about inaccuracies they may find by using the Contact Us link, by private message to the site admin or by clicking here.

Registered users who wish to delete their information from our database must notify us by email.

Part IV. Problem Resolution

I got tired of looking for an example of a generic privacy policy to use (I looked here at XOOPS and on the web), so I hope posting this here at XOOPS helps some of the newbies (like me).

All you need to do is copy-and-paste the code above to wherever you need it, replace "MY COMPANY" with your own company's name and replace "MYCOMPANYSITE.COM" with the URL to your own site.

(Maybe in the future this could be included as a 'default' category with the "xoopsfaq" module?)

The theme.html was the one place I didn't look for this. Thank you for your help...problem solved.

I've spent an hour looking for this here but can't find the answer: Where do I change the "welcome" text that is displayed at the top of the page after a user logs in?

example: Welcome admin (to the left of "account", "edit", etc.)

I've been able to hunt down several visual (image/graphical) verification scripts (php) to use for my XOOPS site but I have no idea where to insert one into the registerform.php (if that's the correct file). Can someone point me in the right direction here? I need to get this done ASAP because our site's going "live" in the next month (we hope) and we want to be able to keep out mass spamming/user sign-up (etc) bots...

Silly me...The reason this was happening was because there were no questions listed under FAQ---I'd mistakenly listed the questions in the FAQ "categories" rather than listing relevant questions under the FAQ categories---and the search feature doesn't display results as links under categories, but does so under the questions...problem solved.

Sorry, Herko...I must have been typing this while you responded...My mistake here, no bug or anything like that to report.

When I enter a keyword into the search block and the results are displayed, any results under FAQ do NOT show up as links as they do under any other module/block---the results display without being able to click on the result, but only under FAQ. Anyone know why this is happening? I'm stumped...

Again, thank you for the quick RSVP...Instead of the single IP, I entered ^XXX.XXX.XXX to ban the range and that worked---I looked into the company (what I could find) and don't like the idea of them 'trolling' my site for what could be questionable motives (I think they're looking for XOOPS flaws to promote their own business/network objectives, if that makes any sense).

My IP ban is NOT working---I've entered an IP properly (separated by a |) but when I check, the IP still shows in the "who's online" box...can someone please help me with this ASAP?
