Thank you for that tip. Since I do not want to hijack this thread I have a question regarding x-ipb (based on ipb 1.3.1) and x-ipb (based on ipb 2.0) here.

Can someone direct me to some XOOPS websites that utilize the IPB x-ipb (based on ipb 1.3.1) and x-ipb (based on ipb 2.0) bridges? I would like to see how they are integrated and also how "skinnable" these forums are under xoops.

As far as I know CBB is a fork of NewBB2. I am not expecting further development on it. I am looking forward to seeing how CBB progresses.

Coincidentally I am considering switching over from NewBB2 to CBB today on my site. I am hoping that the switch goes well.

I chose my original words somewhat carefully. I don't feel that they were rude at all. They were simply my opinion.

I fully understand that NewBB development was for the most part bourne thru a dedicated volunteer effort. This is commendable. My point is that NewBB in its current incarnation doesn't hold a candle to dedicated BB systems (VBulletin, IPB, etc.), this ain't no big secret. I was thinking aloud about how I liked how a competing CMS had a bridge to some forum software that I liked. I hate getting flamed, but if I do for this I will accept it gracefully.

I do value good forum software and how it integrates into Xoops. I am pleased to know that IPB is available, something I wasn't aware of previously.

P.S.
Yay! 100 posts!

I understand that it must have took tremendous effort to get it to where it is now, but I don't see it as a fully realized viable forum alternative. I use it out of necessity rather than by choice on my site. This is only my opinion on NewBB. I am impressed with CBB and am please that it's development is progressing, something that cannot be said about NewBB currently (for obvious reasons).

The reason for this post may be a little off topic (and you may split it if you deem appropriate), but I find it a coup that Mambo enlisted a bridge to the very nice SMF (Simple Machines Forum) system. Variety is the spice of life and us only having one choice is maddening.

I can go on about the disadvantages of NewBB, but we all know them. It's not NewBB's fault or its developers; but in a web landscape filled with BB alternatives, NewBB does not stack up against the top alternatives (right now).

My idea? Brainwash a billionaire and have him fund NewBB development. Hehe. Sorry for that.

Yes, I should have said limited choices. I wasn't aware of the IPB bridge though. I never did like phpBB, the mention of it gives me horrible flashbacks of postnuke.

I like. The first one is better. The icons are clean and crisp. Remind me of Classic Mac icons. My only beef is that the logo you posted should be better represented in the icons.

Good Job.

Btw, as far as I am concerned, tripmon and I are not competing with the two modules. We are both offering the features which the community asked for. For many users, mxDirectory will be all they need, and some may want to use the extra functionality efqDirectory will offer.

This I am aware of and am sorry if my original post conveyed any sense of competition. In fact I believe tripmon offered you full access to his code.

My original intent for this post was to gauge which segments of the target audience each of you are focusing on. This would give me a good idea on whether or not I choose one over the other.

Thanks.

Thank you for the reply. My question was twofold:

1) What features will each other not have?

2) Where will each directory module's strength lie?

Kidding about the fight thing but, what does MX have that efq won't? Vice Versa?

I know that Wtravel partially answered the vice versa elsewhere, but from a strictly mandarin to navel oranges comparison, what features will each other not have. Where will each directory module's strength lie?
