That is something that I would also be interested in doing also. Perhaps people would like to comment on how they would see the best way to practically implement this in xoops.
I would be happy to then develop this in my spare time.

I did not know there was such a recent version of the protector modules. It's a shame that the XOOPS download area is so out of date.

The .htaccess tips seem very handy. But can you just explain whats happening there. I presume it blocks access to unautorised users. I am a little concerned about the uploads directory - I don't want to restrict to much access. (?)

Are the security precautions that all Xoopsters should be aware of. The only relevant information I can find is written in 2004. So to start off... do people find the following useful and relevant:

1. Using the protector module :

2. Hiding the MySQL login & password details by moving them into a diffent file :
http://xoops-tips.com/news-article.storyid-1.htm


Any other security precautions that we should be aware of?

You can find the updated hack at the same place:

Filename is:

so thats:http://www.evucan.com/free/News Module Picture Hack_0.5.zip

I have updated the template files also but obviously you can
change the templates files the way you like to display:
news/templates/blocks/news_block_top.html
news/templates/blocks/news_block_bigstory.html
news/templates/blocks/news_block_randomnews.html

But the main files that have changed are from the block folder:


news/blocks/news_moderate.php
news/blocks/news_randomnews.php
news/blocks/news_top.php

Hi,

I am sure I should know the answer to this but I hope someone can give me an answer soon on this.

How do I enable another site to view the contents of my XOOPS News module on their site. The other site is just a normal site and does not have a RSS reader. Does it need anything special?
