Thanks for your response. I verified that my email address is correct in Site Preferences > General Settings AND Site Preferences > Mail Setup. Still only working for logged in users and not anonymous users. It's not a big deal. I'll keep playing with it.

I'm using Yahoo for my hosting and boy do they suck! Constant mySQL problems the last two months. I'll blame it on them. ;)

Thanks for the tip about Liaise and Formulaire.

"contact us" only emails me for members and not for anonymous users. it works fine when i'm logged in but not otherwise. is this normal? i've granted permission for all users.... any hints would be great. if you need additional info just let me know. thanks. :)

the faq may help.

not sure how you're been doing things but i just upload (ftp) the unzipped patch (/html/...) to my host. it overwrites files and if you need to hand edit some stuff 'cause you're using a nonstandard module or what ever.

hope that points you in the right direction.

Mmmnnn... 5 minutes on comcast... That's a big ass file.

Communications 3.6 megabits per second
Storage 435.7 kilobytes per second
1MB file download 2.4 seconds
Subjective rating Awesome

//bragging bragging but of course it's never really that fast

at least here. I suppose other options may be needed in someplaces.

The 300 second time out. I didn't know about that. Thanks. I suppose a question about that was coming eventually.

I just installed XOOPS Backup 2.16 and it seems pretty good. Seems to do the same thing as I was doing with phpMyAdmin (sql text), it's just nice to have it in a simple block. I noticed in the default it gives Registered Users access to the block, I made sure to turn that off. Neat tool to add to the arsenal. My host does backups, I occasionally use phpMyAdmin and now with this block if I loose data the gods are just being hateful. Thanks for the suggestions!

Hi all. This is my first time using a dynamic website and want to make sure I'm backing everything up correctly. Yes yes I'm asking for some hand holding here. I'm just worried I'm going to loose all my data by over looking something simple. So,

My little site is hosted and I'm using phpMyAdmin. After logging in I click on the database on the left hand drop down selection box, then click export. On the page "View dump (schema) of database" I click select all and leave SQL checked as the default export. I leave the default Structure and Enclose table and field names with backquotes checked. Data is also checked. I check save as file with "File name template : __DB__. This gives me a nice text document.

Now I know I need to start going through the mySQL docs, but until I get the time to do so, am I backing up correctly? Thanks for any tips.

I'm no guru, but here we go...

Q: Which Linux distribution shall I install?

There's a whole bunch of good ones. Check out distrowatch.com. You mentioned Red Hat, which is my favorite. SuSe is also great. If this is a test box check out Fedora. For business you'll want something more stable. Use the latest stable version of what ever distro you choose, especially for your first time.

Q: What software can I use for windows emulation (my best guess is wine)?

Winblows emulation? Yuck! There's plenty of great apps for Linux. Wine doesn't work half the time and it's slow. I never use it. There's others, but again, yuck.

Q: Which boot-manager can I use, when installing win XP in parallel and going for dual boot?

Grub. Dual booting with Red Hat / Fedora is (usually) painless. Install Winblows first. Then Linux. Most of the magic happens on it's own.

Hope that helps some. If you're going to play in the land of the penguins you should consider joining a local
linux user group. They help me a lot. Good luck!

Well it was a good idea, but no luck. The results are not accurate. Yahoo stats state that nobody visited my site sunday and only one person yesterday. Not true. Oh well I give up with them. I'll try using one of the modules to track visits. Thanks anyway.
