This is the news module that came with XOOPS install. Should I upgrade or try different news module.

Any suggestions would help. What I ultimately want is Main Categories, sub-categories, and more sub-categories for regional news (cities, etc).

Thanx!

I just discovered this. When making a new block there is a setting for the content (Content: tables, links, bbcode, php), if it is html then use html setting, if it's php use php setting, and I'm assuming bbcode or mixed elements use autoformat.

Thanks for your help I got it. Go to 'Group Manager' and find block permissions.

One More Q - Is there a better way to show content other than iframe (off XOOPS topic, sorry).

Peace!

No there is no group permission available. Here is what I see...

Blocks Administration
Show blocks visible in (Top Page) Group (Anonymous Users) Visible (No-Yes-All) [GO]

... only blocks available are system blocks for anon.
The module blocks don't even show here. The only place other blocks show is webmaster and registered. When the new block is available, I click edit and there is still no group permissions there. Only top, all, news, forum...

By the way, damn you're quick to reply.

Do I need to create system blocks for content to show on the top page for anon users to see?

When I make a new block (even under anon users in blocks manager), anons connot see it on top page. All the blocks available for display are system blocks.

For example I am running a toplist and want it on top page for anon users to see. To show it I would use an iframe in a block in center-center.

How does XOOPS make their new leftside menus, the new XOOPS release block, etc?

Also is there a better way to show contents from different pages other than an iframe.

Thanks for your help!

I have looked through many forums/hacks/modules in searched for a solution to change the display of the URL the user gets in their address bar.

I've learned google is smart enough to index pages with the '?' in their URL. The ?URL does not say much to the user though. What about other independent directories, toplists, or just a plain old reciprical links. It is a definite turn off to the surfers and other sites scripts.

URL Parsing or Exploding URLs
I remember reading this article (think it was on About Network, will post when found) on re-writing URLs and to do it very easily with PHP and .htaccess. I think this could be turned into a great module if it was built VERY BASIC.

It seems the current modules attempt to do this action as a whole to the entire site. What if there was a module that only eploded URL's that the admin had selected and had specified a definite URL output for it.

Maybe a good layout would be a single text box, in the currently viewed page, to type a displayed URL. The theory is if you can surf there, then you can manipulate the URL.

For example, if you wanted to, you could view a comment of a news article and assign it a new URL, then link to it on other areas of your site, other peoples sites, and search engines. That would be awesome, you would not be limited to a set standard of URL re-writing.

Well, this is just an idea. I'm still learning to script. So it's up to the XOOPS community.

PEACE!

I want to change the name of the 'module' directory. The term module doesn't seem too appealing. Maybe 'sections' or 'members' would be better.

I am prepared to re-install XOOPS if needed. Maybe I could search all code for term 'module' and replace with 'sections'?
