That's easy :)

First of all go to your admin area.
them System Admin > Groups
Edit Groups > click on Anonymous - Modify
there you can set which blocks are visible.
Then go to your other groups and deselect the same block.
(to make it not visible)
Nice to see another Aussie :)

*edit* Beat me to it :P

I've seen Google search blocks on some XOOPS sites, but I imagine they are just custom blocks.

*LOL@"Xoobs" XOOPS for noobs??*

I like it, it sorta suits the whole idea of the site. I love the "Yikes, it's the boss!" button! Although I wish I hadn't seen the site, I have enough ways of avoiding work already :P

Are there any? I came across this and I thought it would be easy enough to incorporate, although I haven't tried it out yet.

ackbarr's karate_redux theme does exactly this, i'm sure it's available in the downloads section. You could download it and see how he does it.

if you go to Admin/System Admin/Groups/ and click on "modify" next to anonymous users under the "Edit Groups" menu you can select which modules and blocks anonymous (ie unregistered or not logged-in) users can see.
That should do it.

If you want to fiddle with the theme to try and get it the same as the XOOPS one (or any other) your first step should be to set up a XOOPS site on your own comp so you can play around without destroying your live site.

All the files you need to change would be in the /themes/default folder, you just have to change various things in style.css to change how a page is displayed for that particular theme. If you have or can get a CSS editor like Top Style Pro, it makes things all the easier. You may also have to change some things in theme.html, depending on what you want to achieve.

Once you have things the way you want, you can either upload the default theme from your comp and overwrite the original on your live site, or rename it to something else.

I'm in the process of doing exactly what you ant to do, except i'm modifying a different theme. If I've got anything wrong in above or anybody can suggest anything else, please feel free.

Oh, and with the banners, you'll need a good graphics program such as Adobe Photoshop, and perhaps something like Ulead Gif Animator or Macromedia Flash if you want to make animated banners. Photoshop and Flash are very expensive, but there are other cheaper/free alternatives out there.

Good luck :)

OK I downloaded 2.0.5 and uploaded it to my sever. what's the easiest way to upgrade? Change the mainfile.php to point to the /xoops-2.0.5 folder, or copy the new folders over the old ones?

Thanks Chapi, I thought as much. I just wanted to be sure before I went ahead.
