You can check this site out. See if any of the modules are deployed as you hope.

I know of no specidfic module that will do exactly what you request.

I think the idea is to store widgets for reuse.

If this is the case, you ought ot establish a number of reuseability requirements, constraints and the like. Certainly this idea is in keeping with the whole OO thing.

Along this lines, if you already know there is a magnificent location for such stuff, albeit not limited to XOOPS, already.

I use this site quite a bit.

The way XOOPS is setup, there is in your public_html/themes directory a set of files (notably style.css and theme.html) Almost all modules use all or parts of these to drive their look and feel. Some modules have their own themes, css and the like.

You need to know the following:

1. Are you going to change the whole system? If so modify the public_html/themes files
2. Does your module have its own themes that need modification? If so find them and modify them

If you want to get mor sophisticated than that you can set multiple themes by page for a XOOPS site. Hacks for that are to be found at:http://xoops-tips.com/

If you want to see how all this works, go to myhttp://eirenicon.org site. Play with the Try our Themes box (bottom left). If you want to download some annotated themes that provide limited instructions on what and where to change things, download those from my site also-- either will work.

Good luck!

Please provide a link...

My guess is that you've removed modules from your mainmenu. If you do that then search doesn't search them.

You might also need to change the number of characters or something. Anyway without seeing it, it is hard to know.

Hi James,

Thanks for the web pointers. flumpcakes seems especially useful.

As for the tools I like. I am a HUGE fan of Topstyle Pro. I think I use that tool more any other piece of software on my PC except perhaps Outlook (which is another sad story).

I also use Namo Webeditor a lot, because I'm a lazy html coder, am old and have a shoddy memory for coding rules.
I use Topstyle to fix my Namo html code. Like James, I strive for stds and speed in themes.

I am a big fan of Liquid CSS/ or wireframe CSS (that whole table free thing). It is really difficult to explain how useful and powerful it is until you use it. Anything that can free your site to look 'right' and be browser & screen size independent is great; and this style of css can do a lot in that area. The problem generally is that table free css is too often implemented in a boring looking style. So for those of you who have not been following my other postings on this site, I've been working on keeping the advantage of Liquid CSS plus adding a certain 'eye candy factor'to XOOPS themes.

You can check my sites out and let me know if you think I'm succeeding. If you are interested in helping me get this to a higher level of beauty and flexibility let me know.

Hi rpilney...

email me links and your css. I'll be happy to help you on Thursday / Friday of this week.

In the meantime, if you want try it on your own and go to download some annotated themes that are editable, go tohttp://eirenicon.org

You'll find some of mine there, along with instructions on the inside. Demos of the themes are also on that site.

Enjoy!

Try using the combination of multimenu and v 0.5 of content...I find they work splendidly.

Thanks Richard,

I fully agree. I would add that I am more than willing to host a skinny version of the XOOPS site for development, testing and ultimately roll out purposes of a revised XOOPS site.

I think it is time we make demonstrateable progress on this effort, for the sake of the XOOPS community and furtherance of XOOPS.

I would additionally say that in looking at our competition, we ought to be able to make a significantly better and more flexible presence than many.

My recommendation would be that this effort, like most open source efforts, be iterative. We need not come up with the perfect solution the first time. As Richard says we can poll folks for their opinions and go with what seems good within a limited time window; from there we should not be shy. It is okay to have version 2, 3, +. I, also, think, it ought to be acceptable to offer multiple themeatic views of XOOPS.

To my mind, we are trying to do more than one thing here. We want the site to be elegant, useful, tailorable, customizable and standards oriented. To achieve these objectives we need a robust environment, not necessarily a single simple solution.

Hi all...

In the better late than never category ????

I have been playing around with themes quite a bit lately. Some of you may have noticed.... Anyway, I have created a demonstration site for my 10 most recent wireframe themes at:

http://eirenicon.org (see the Test our Themes block on the left)

All of these wireframe themes are rooted in exactly the same code (CSS & html). As I've moved from format to format, I have been trying a number of different and some peculiar layouts. I think all work well within the construct of the individual site. I've also done my best, such as that is, to make certain these themes are w3c compliant.

Other items I've been incorporating in my themes include:

1. the use of Opacity,
2. Flash and
3. Font resizing
4. speed (small size with minimal use of large images, except the flash stuff )

In the spirit of sharing what I've learned... I am happy to work with anyone to further the cause of developing an elegant interface for XOOPS.

You may download two versions of my wireframe themes without registration on thehttp://eirenicon.org site.

If someone on this forum or team would like access to a specific variant that is not currently downloadable, just let me know (pm?) and we can make appropriate arrangements,
