Thanks Steve.

As mentioned I'm currently arranging my wedding with the missus, juggling the business, and our on-line sites, I just haven't had time for all the tripe of the XOOPS world, kinda pulls you down and sucks you in if your not careful.

If something urgent crops up, I'm sure the team will pass a message onto me as they do now.

Still around.
Tom
Kind Regards.

The beuty of open source, is you can make it your module if you wish.

Perhaps have a look at modules like the news or smartsections and see how they have groups implemented with better meta's, this may help you achieve all that you hope too with the module.
Kind Regards.

Why don't you make a news announcement for this?

Also are there any screen shots before I download it?
Kind Regards.

I like the design, doesn't look like a XOOPS site which is cool. I don't like the scroll bars though that are present when viewing modules.

I gather this theme wont be released then?
Kind Regards.

Will this work with any more modules? or only those using Frameworks?

Will it also pick up on old information too in the forums, or would it only work with new posts? if so could it be updated?

I know the knew wordbook modules has this feature and links to other posts in it's own modules.

The new wordbook module is now called Lexicon and can be found:

http://dev.xoops.org/modules/xfmod/project/?lexikon

It would be cool and almost worth install the mediawiki for such a feature in modules, to cross link all over the site with minimal effort.
Kind Regards.

I've not personally experienced these errors and use the module on a fair few sites.

Why not try the latest version?

1.08 at the time of posting this:

For all future users, why not consider using something like smart sections, you can assign permissions per article and category which is cool to make a few pages to be referenced on your site and to handle whom should see them.

You can get Smart Sections and other great modules from the Smart Factory:

http://smartfactory.ca/

It can handle any amount of pages, I've used it since it was released and still love it today.

I really like the admin theme, I'm hoping it's not long before the admin can be easily themed like in XOOPS 2.2. That would just rock.

Will you be doing and releasing many themes like this Will?
Kind Regards.

Those chat modules are ok for a small amount of users, perhaps 10 or 20 at a push, but they will slow your website down.

Flash chat by tufat is probably the better option of the ones mentioned.

If you have cash, want reliability, usability, scalability, then consider 123flashchat its a server based chat room, with an XOOPS plugin to allow direct connection of usernames from XOOPS to chat.

Yeah it costs money, but if your offering a professional service with members chatting daily then 123flash could be your answer:http://123flashchat.com/

if it's just a hobby, and you ain't too bothered, or your just trialling chat then the flash chat by tufat is the option to go with.
Kind Regards.

Thanks wtravel for the translation much appreciated, not spoke in a while I hope all is well with you.

Hi katim110,

You didn't humiliate XOOPS, or bring it down in anyway, sometimes people fear criticism and see it as an attack, this is not your fault it is theirs.

You didn't even need to explain yourself, but thank you for doing so anyway.

As the wise kc0maz said, XOOPS is not the perfect tool for every situation, and no matter what is done it probably never will be, however for those solutions it offers and fits, XOOPS exceeds itself.

Anyway I wouldn't worry Katim, just people being a little over sensitive.

I've toyed with many CMS's, the major thing that deters me from Joomla is the lack of core grouping features for members, plus not all the sites we maintain are run by us, so it could be confusing the those web masters whom struggle to even turn the computer on.

I've been loving WordPress recently, and even made some small minor theme code releases for the MU version which is wicked.

Good luck with what you do Katim. Godspeed.

Hi goatboy,

it takes a big person to own up to their mistakes, no apology was needed, you pre-empted this situation.

I too tire of the bickering, but sometimes that's what it takes to make people listen, not everyone always agrees with the method though.

Hi DavidFarr,

Buggy modules are not really the concern of the core, although I feel more could be done to help developers and show end users the compatibility as is done with WP, Joomla and many other great CMS's out there, all it takes is a little image to show if it's stable, rc, alpha, etc, if it works with 2.0 or 2.2, etc.

If you feel you may now of made the wrong choice, then I'd be inclined to agree with you, in that the choice you made wrong was not testing and comparing all favourable systems extensively before launching a production website, otherwise you wouldn't be doubting your original decision.

Despite my few gripes with XOOPS I still love it, we run many sites with XOOPS, some with over 10,000 members, we also run wp sites and some commercial scripted sites as no CMS had to offer what we were looking for at the time.
Kind Regards.
