Yep - saw another user saying 2.2.4 is a leap backwards in time. If that was the case, they shouldn't have branded it as 'RELEASE' . 2.2.4 > 2.0.x , or am I the only crazy bugger to think that higher versions are latest releases rather than the other way around. I downloaded from sourceforge.net DIRECTLY even before I visited www.xoops.org . The 2.2.4 version there is not labeled as beta , or alpha etc - its a RELEASE version for crying out loud (Now they tell me).

I now think it's better to go back to 2.0.x instead of this one, but have no idea how to do the migration (my clients are going to be REALLY pissed off now). I've got loads of articles, posts etc that I will need to copy over into 2.0.x. Any suggestions on how to go about doing this ?

The CTRL + Visible in "Top Page", "Articles->Archive" thingy does not work for me.

Still it's a bit annoying/confusing - Top Page blocks should be shown DEVOID of the fact that there is a starting module or not. I think I don't have any other solution, other than to make all top page modules to be visible in Articles->All Modules. I am quite sure this used to work ok (still works ok in my local dev environment on apache) on the production server. But something changed on the server (e.g. php settings, dont know) and it stopped showing all top page modules.

Yep, they are all in the 'Add Blocks' Pull down menu. The strange thing is , the BLOCK/PAGE/MODULE I set as the starting page in the System->General Preferences does not have a corresponding block in the Add BLocks pull down menu (and also not in the 'visible in' field.)

A very strange problem indeed. I just need someone to confirm that on APache/PHP/Mysql setup All TOP PAGE blocks are still visible even if we have a starting module.

EDIT:

Yes, we are usign the standard/default template set

(but using a different theme)

Hi,

Yes I have, but the only option in the 'visible in' area is:

Articles
- All Modules
- Archive

Thats it. SO I have to select ALl Modules for my blocks to appear on the Top Page, BUT they also appear in ALL Articles Pages/Modules (e.g. if in the Main Menu I click Articles->Add New and get taken to the Add New Article page - the other Blocks are still visible and they reduce the size of the article entry page significantly)

Hope that makes it clear.

Quest,

The problem is that Articles has only two places in which I can make the blocks visible e.g. :

Visible In:

Articles
- All Module Pages
- Archive

Whereas Article has the following Blocks

AMS Spotlight
Big Story
Highest Rated Articles
New Topics
ETC ETC

I cannot select any of these blocks in the 'Visible In' field. So I have to select 'All Module Pages', which means that if I click the submit article link from menu, and the add new article page appears, I can STILL see the surrounding blocks (that I made visible in All Module Pages in Articles).

Sorry if I sounded a bit abrupt - JD and Quest are now helping me. I just got a bit annoyed that no one was looking at the problem.

You guys are doing a good job - very good product! If I get this sorted out I will recommend this to other people.

Cheers

Hi JD/Quest,

Thanks for your replies.

JD - I've tried registering on your website, but for some reason when I try to login, and visit the forums it logs me out.

Anyway - this is what's happening in my local dev setup :

1. System -> General Settings

Articles (AMS) is starting module.

System Preferences

2. Blocks -> List all blocks.

Two blocks are visible on Top Page, and the rest are visible on All Frontside pages.

Blocks

3. If I visit root of my website e.g. www.mysite.com/index.php

I get redirected to the Article Management System

Index Page

You can see that the Top Page blocks are STILL visible. (which is what I want).

4. If I visit any other module or block, lets say I click the Archive link from the menu, the Top Page blocks are not visible anymore.

Another Block

This scenario does not work on the hosted server. The Top Page modules are not visible when I visit the index page of my website (and get redirected to the starting module). In my local development environment I am using Apache instead of IIS.

So, whats the normal behaviour ? The one I presented above, or the one thats happening on the hosted server ?

All I want is to have some blocks ONLY appear when I first visit the site e.g. www.mysite.com/ (index page) and NOT appear on any other pages.

Hope that helps.

Cheers

To the XOOPS community and Developers:

I posted a thread a few days ago in this forum :

https://xoops.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?post_id=215891&topic_id=49053&forum=27

I also posted this bug in the XOOPS 2.2 Bug reports forum.

SO far, I have only had ONE person who tried to help me. I indicated in the thread that XOOPS in its current form is unuseable for me. It's a major bug, and I cannot trace the problem. The problem itself is not very hard to confirm (I asked in my thread if someone can help me isolate the problem by doing a SMALL test - not taking hours of their time).

It's been many days now, and I am getting extremely frustrated by the lack of responses. XOOPS is a good product, and unfortunately the problem started happening right at the end of development life cycle (e.g. when the site was almost complete). Now we are 'sort of' locked in, and can't move away or start from scratch as that will take a very long time. If I had known at the beginning that the community and more importantly the developers were not actively helping out the users, I wouldn't have given XOOPS a second look. Yes, I agree that open source is a wypiwyg (What you pay is what you get) model, I would have thought the developers respond through SOME support channel. If site/forums is not an official support channel, then what is ?

Thanks for listening to my rant.

Cheers

Can anyone help ? The portal is nearly unusable for me at the moment.

Can you guys please try the following and post your debug results (doesnt matter what environment/xoops version you are using)

1. Add a few modules. I had the following
User Menu -All Frontside Pages
Main Menu- All Frontside Pages
Recent Posts - Starting Module
Who's Online - Top Page

2. Set the debug mode from System->preferences (MySQL/Blocks Debug)

3. GO to the index of your website e.g. www.mysite.com/index.php

Post debug text from popup window after whole website page has finished loading.

Would appreciate any help. Thanks.

Comon guys this is getting ridiculous -- Can any of the devs please look at this problem, or at least tell me how to debug this ? We are talking about a XOOPS internal query here. Can someone please post their module selection query (set any module as start page, some other modules should be visible and on System->Top Page) ?
