Thanks for the replies so far. No final solutions (if they even exist), but these are some very handy tricks.

I'll try the copy protection, some legal notes and the hidden text trick.

Would it be best to include that code in theme.html or rather in article templates? (it doesn't seem work to work in themes - still testing)

And would that work for both IE and Firefox?

It happends a lot that people copy articles without notice on another site. Articles that had cost a lot of work and sometimes even money.

Is there a simple way to protect text? For example to block the function to select text or to review to source code. This is probably more a browser-related problem, but maybe there exists a xoops-addon for it (haven't found it yet).

I removed the print option already and use several pages on my articles. This makes it harder to be copied, but not impossable.

Any ideas?

Hi,

I'm trying to find out how I can add some javascript code (a random banner/text) at the bottom of each news page. So, in between laatst paragraph and the comments.

First I thought I had to add that in theme.php, but that works for all pages and not only news. (I have added some code to the footer though, but that's not what I want here)
So, logically, it needs to be edited in a file in the news module. But which file?

Article.php? I can't see a lot of HTML in there, so I suppose adding some HTML/Javascript codes here wouldn't work?

Then I tought of news_article.html in the templates map in the news module. I added some code there, but nothing happends.

Can anyone give me a hint if I'm working in the right direction?

Hi,

I started with a fresh new 2.0.9 install and installed a couple of additional modules. One of those was iStats, which seems very handy to get hold of some statistics of my site.

But... iStats does nothing. It's stuck at zero and no matter how matter visitors arrive (as seen from 'Who's online') it remains at zero...

I have chmodded the cache map to 777 and config.php to 666. Is there something else I might be doing wrong?

Thanks,
Yero

Site gone after upgrading!?

Oops! I just tried to update my site from 1.3.6 to 2.0.7.3. The installation procedure works well and it even recognized my ancient 1.3-site, but then...

Resized Image

It just says 'updating modules' and nothing happends. Even after 15 minutes... The table also looks unfinished, like something has gone wrong... but what?

When I try to access my site now, I only see the header and footer, but nothing more... Is my site gone?

What should I do now? Is there anything I can try? Can I still retore my old site by uploading the original files in the httpdocs?

Please advice

Yero

Thanks, I was looking for those older files!
I will give it a try.

The only thing I can't find it a patch to upgrade from 1.3.10 tot 2.0 (it starts with 2.03)

Hi,

I'm a Xoops-addict from the first hour. I installed the RC3-version about two years ago and must honestly admit that I didn't update it since... (I planned to upgrade from the RC-version to the final, when it suddenly became version 1.3)

I want to upgrade now, but that is very difficult. I tried to upgrade it to the latest 1.x version, but that one didn't recognize it and wanted to install everything over again. The 2.0 version does also not recognize the old XOOPS version.

I'm trying to find a way to keep the database intact while upgrading to the latest version. But this seems to be very difficult. Also, because I'm not a PHP/MySQL-expert.

Is there anyone that know what do to? Or give me some suggestions?

I'm even willing to pay someone to do it for me, as long that it can be guarranteed that the database will remain working properly.

Regards,
Yero

Hi,

Unfortunately I'm still running an old version of XOOPS (1.3). I didn't upgrade yet because it runs well (and it is a lot of work and I'm not that technical).

But with the forum worm outthere my newbb forum is under attack. My hosting provider proposed to shut the forum down.

Is there anything that can be easily done about this? Can I upgrade to the latest version by uploading the latest files (I guess not, because I tried this).

Will updating the PHP version solve the problem?

Any help is appreciated!

Regards,
Yero

P.S. I still want to upgrade to 2.x but I encounter difficulties because my version is so old. Is there any way to keep current data in the database?
