I've just upgraded my News module from v1.1 to v1.44.

Everything seems to be working fine except that I am unable to change some of the Recent News block options.

In particular, I can't seem to change the Length of the title from 25 to any other value.

I've tried disabling caching, but the length returns to the default value after I clicked submit.

I've doubled check to make sure I have the Module Admin rights to the module.

What am I doing wrong? BTW my XOOPS version is 2.0.10, this is for one of my older sites.

Thanks in advance for your help.

What is the difference between 2.2.3 and 2.0.13.2?

I haven't visited Xoops.org for a while, anyway I noticed there are two full versions available for download.

Why do XOOPS offer two versions of the package? What are differences between the two?

Thank you.

I would just disable the Protector Module, you dont really need it as its redundant since the new versions of XOOPS has a security class.

I tried disabling Protector but that didn't fix the problem.

I am using 2.0.10 so I guess I'll have to enable protector before upgrading to 2.2 tomorrow.

One of my users has been getting the following error when trying to access one (just one) of the forums for my IPB forum.

She has been getting

Quote:

Warning: mysql_select_db(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL-Link resource in /home/virtual/site/var/www/html/modules/protector/include/precheck.inc.php on line 26

Warning: mysql_query(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL-Link resource in /home/virtual/site/var/www/html/modules/protector/class/protector.php on line 44

And when she tries to access the homepage she gets

I am using XOOPS 2.0.10.

The strange thing is, she is the only one from 5000 members having the problem (If there's other users, it's not reported to me).

What do you think causing the problem and how to fix this?

If you really got that much visitors, I think in long term thinking it is a _lot_ cheaper to buy an own server and try to find a nearby datacenter to place your server. It is cheaper and you have full control over your server.

Yes, I'll probably take that route but unfortunately there's no nearby datacenter at my place

3. ev1servers's packages are not excellent, but "not so bad"

Could you explain more regarding this? Could you let me know other companies that offer better packages so that I can check them out? Thank you

LazyBadger, Thank you for responding!

Well, I only can afford the P4 2.4 GHz, Linux with Ensim Pro Control Panel, and 1 GB RAM.

http://www.ev1servers.net/english/pentium4_series.asp

I am not famaliar with FreeBSD btw.

I just thought Celeron 1.3 GB wouldn't cut it no matter how I fine tuned MYSQL/Apache.

Will the server I have in mind cope with my requirements you think?

Currently my XOOPS site is hosted on a dedicated server, Celeron 1.3 Ghz, 1 GB RAM, 60 Gig hard drive at EV1Servers.net. During peak times the site becomes very slow and the server really struggling. It is usual for the server to simply crash and a restart is the only way to fix this.

I am planning to upgrade my server and would like to get your opinions regarding the best server to get with the limited fund that I have.

During peak times, my site gets about 300 or more visitors on the main site and another 400 or many more users in the forum.

What do you thing the best server to get that can accomodate these number of visitors?

I am willing to spend max $200/month and am thinking of getting an Intel Pentium 4 2.4 Ghz, 1 GB RAM, 80 GB Hard Drive. Is that sufficient for my needs?

Thank you!

I get many of these queries when the number of visitors increases which I assume for each visitors.

SELECT FROM xoops_online
SELECT member_id
as uid FROM xoops_session WHERE login_type='1' AND member_id>AND member_id=
SELECT member_id

SELECT member_id
as uid FROM xoops_session WHERE login_type='1' AND member_id>AND member_id=1276
SELECT member_id
as uid FROM xoops_session WHERE login_type='1' AND member_id>AND member_id=
SELECT member_id
as uid FROM xoops_session WHERE login_type='1' AND member_id>AND member_id=
SELECT member_id
as uid FROM xoops_session WHERE login_type='1' AND member_id>AND member_id=
SELECT member_id
as uid FROM xoops_session WHERE login_type='1' AND member_id>AND member_id=
SELECT member_id
as uid FROM xoops_session WHERE login_type='1' AND member_id>AND member_id=
SELECT member_id
as uid FROM xoops_session WHERE login_type='1' AND member_id>AND member_id=0

Is there a way to reduce the number of query?
