A further update (this is also going to Sourceforge):

I have a new install on my test web server:

Fedora Core 3
Apache 2.0.52-3.1
MySQL 3.23.58-14
PHP 4.3.10-3.2

I created an admin group, added a dummy user there. Still doesn't work. This was not an upgrade, but a fresh install.

I'd still appreciate any ideas.

Julian, thanks for the suggestion:

I did check to see if the reference was there, but it's not; it's completely gone.

I did already open a bug report on SourceForge; my hope was that one of our brilliant coders here might be able to see what's going on.

Thanks again.

An update on the server:

Apache 1.3.31
MySQL 4.0.21-max-log
PHP 4.3.10

FWIW, I'm also running Newbb 2.

For what it's worth, I'm having the same problem. I have updated all modules, rebuilt all templates, resaved pertinent blocks, and still have no administration menu.

Your work-around is pretty good. I'm starting to look at the code to see if I can figure anything out, but I'm still at a loss.

Any help would be wonderful....

(30 minutes later)

After some further research, I found the following:

The system doesn't think my admins are valid. I went to the xoops_user_block and eliminated the "if" statement (if $xoops_isadmin), which displayed the administration menu. However, when I selected it under that ID, I still didn't have permission to the admin area.

I've added a test user to every group in my site, including "webmasters" but still don't have the admin privilege.

Ideas?

One more update:

I just updated my Koivi to the current (1.0.3) version. Table problem solved. Works great.

One thing I've noticed is that I've had a hard time getting tables to work with any editor except Spaw. The only problem is that the Spaw currently tied to XOOPS is IE-only. Their separate version on their website works with Gecko-based browser, but there's not yet been a port into Xoops.

My personal favorite is Koivi, but as has been noted, it's still pretty early for it.

I agree with the other posts; a good editor (or good hooks for all editors) should be near the top of the list; a content management system needs an excellent way to manually add content; the editor hooks would be the right way to do that.

M0nty:

You're a genius; and I'm a blithering idiot.

That's what happened. I received your message while I was going through the groups.php to see what the code does. I noticed that "if users>200" clause and was just starting to review when I got your message.

The last time I worked with this site, it had about 150 members. All my other sites are public, with only administrative accounts (usually less than 20). This site now has 300 users.

I saw the link, but when I clicked it, it appeared to be used to find members of the group, not add members. I should have followed through.

After receiving your message, I DID follow through, and, though obvious to me now, it surprised me when I could add users that way.

My groups are back in shape. On the bright side, at least I'm now current on all my rev's!!

Thanks again for all your help.

-Richard

An update:

I did manipulate the database directly and was able to add a user to a group by modifying the xoops_groupuser_link table. When I modify the group, that person shows up as a member.

So it appears that the database works, but not the page. Ideas?

Thanks in advance.

-Richard

Now I'm wondering - I installed it awhile back and have several other XOOPS sites, so I'm not sure. I don't see anywhere to get a version. The footer of the admin page says 2.0.7, so I'm wondering if that isn't correct.

Other sites so 2.0.7.3 - If that's trustworthy, then I should go ahead and take it all the way up, I think...

(1 Hour later...)

OK, it IS 2.0.7. I upgraded to 2.0.9.2 and upgraded the Forum modules to 2.01 (current stable). I did all the upgrade procedures required, but the problem still exists:

The "Add" box and the non-member box still don't show up when working with group membership. The members DO show up.

Good questions. Sorry I didn't give more info.

Xoops 2.0.7.2 - I have installed newbb2 in the last couple of weeks but not much else.

I turned on PHP debugging, but nothing showed. I tried MYSQL, and saw the queries, which all looked good.

What am I doing (stupidly) wrong?
