You are correct! The Style.css for the theme was controlling the size of the textarea. Thank you so much for your help!

Okay after further testing, I have figured out that it's not taking my cols value. Even if I try and hardcode a value, it does not seem to change.

Great job on the shoutbox, but I am also unable to make the shoutbox textarea smaller as well as the table around the button options. I have made the buttons smaller etc but the module is still stretching out my page. (www.gamingangels.com)

Okay I want to turn off register_globals due to the protector module letting me know it's not a good thing to have that on..
'register_globals' : on Not secure
This setting invites a variety of injecting attacks.
If you can put .htaccess, edit or create...

But when I edit the .htaccess then I get an internal error for the whole site.

Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

How do I then turn off register globals but keep my site up?

I just followed the instructions <a href="https://xoops.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=63861&viewmode=flat&order=ASC&type=&mode=0&start=20">here</a>. So far that works. This really should be a part of the upgrade instructions.

I did the updates and Newbb does work only with the upgraded Xoops. But now my users are not able to log in if they logged out. It says welcome (username) but doesn't actually log them in. HELP!?!

I tried the newbb 3.0.8 update, but it did not update at all. The forums went blank, so I reverted to the older newbb. Any suggestions?
