MODERATION like in the news module : webmaster can read a post before publishing ...

Some persons could answer that the forum will not be a real forum after that but I could answer that I don't want to activate the option at first but I would like to have the opportunity to do this on a specific forum if I needed to (otherwise, I must close all the module) ...

For the most part, I think XOOPS is the next best thing since PB&J. But i still find myself going, "gosh i wish..." and it's usually in the areas of the forums.

Whistles and bells would be nice, but not needed. I think some of these just add to the clutter. Clutter in the user interface and clutter in the consequent posts.

I would perfer more basic features however...

Things like:

-Moderators able to delete a single post rather than the whole thread...
-Moderatorts being able to move a single post to another area rather than the whole thread..
-A mark all posts read ablility - (i get hounded on this by users quite a bit)

Those are the things I feel newBB is missing and have me looking (sometimes) at the other Forum offerings. The only thing that keeps me from going that route is the cringe i get when having to do core overwrites these require.

I think most site owners get too hung up on their Forums and various bells and whistles. While the end users really don't care which forum package you use. All they want to be able to do is have a discussion, and use smilies.

I honestly can't see what all these other forums offer that NewBB DOESN'T. It even now has a notifications feature. About the only thing missing, maybe is the ability to follow threads in their email, which basically becomes a listserve at that point. Again it has notifications feature, threaded/flat few, smilies, and it even looks like phpbb, icon board, blah, blah. Best of all it's fully integrated into the core. So I don't get where this need or desire comes from to swap it with something else.

Hey thepod, you have just answer 2 out of the 3 highest ranking reservations I had about XOOPS. After reading your post I went straight to that site and have already got IPBoard working on my testsite and will give his phpBB module a spin in the next week.

Only problem I've had is that I've been unable to get the login hack to work . However through tinkering I've managed to stop my site working at all , lucky I backed up. I'm using a W2K / IIS combo, are you able to point me in the direction of getting this login hack to work? I've tried doing everything discussed on the forums there, but nothing changes.

I am currently running 4 XOOPS sites, all of which have been converted to use the IPBoard by koudanshi. The features of the IBF module far outweigh any issues about waiting for updates post-official-upgrade. If it werent for the availability of the IBF module, I would never have chosen XOOPS as my CMS.

A forum is quite possibly the most important part of a community site, second to the ability of the community to easily access the site in the first place. Koudanshi has single handedly made XOOPS 1000x more user-friendly in these respects, as his Login Hack in conjunction with the IBF module solve 2 big XOOPS issues: a sub-standard forum & A CMS that lets ur session expire mid-activity, formerly incapable of "remembering me".

I think the XOOPS Dev team should seriously consider adopting this module, all parties willing. It is an outstanding module as is, integrated not into the comments but into everything else: Recent Activity displayed in XOOPS profile & all. If you take the time to register on
this site you can see how I have integrated it seemlessly into the rest of the site, the 'Recent Topics' block serves the function of the Recent Comments block, only better, with more detailed information...
I'm just saying, if its this good already, imagine what the whole XOOPS team could do to improve on it if they were to take it on as a Core module. It might blow up.

Why to change NewBB???

- Does PhpBb or IBF have "threaded view" options ?
(This is very important for looong discussions)
- Is it possible to integrate it with XOOPS "Comments"?
(This is also important for finding a specific user's messages)

I'm fine with NewBB. The one and only question about it "Why there is no Neasted view option like Comments?"

This is coming from a total PHP / CMS newbie purely from the viewpoint of manageablity and functionality and site layout. I almost chose PHP-Nuke over XOOPS with one of the main reasons being PHP-Nukes use of the phpBB forums (I also like the Somara XP theme for PHP-Nuke, I'm sick I know ) . One of the other major issues I have is with XOOPS is the CSS aligment issues with the seemingly very broken IE 5.X.

The things that stopped me was the rather hacky method it seems to take to get PHP-Nuke to work on a W2K / IIS server (especially in comparison to XOOPS), and reading through some of the post here saying how far ahead the XOOPS project is compared to the others which I'm inclined to believe given the very slick installation and general feel of XOOPS. The other thing was I've now come across several XOOPS based sites that don't seem to suffer the CSS layout issues I have at all indicating to me there must be an achieveable fix which I'm yet to persue.

Anyway, my point being although the newbb forums are totally functional, imho they lack a lot of statistical and management features that phpbb seems to offer. In the end I suppose it comes down to I'm looking for a complete cms, not one that'll just do the job. I think XOOPS is so close it's frustrating seeing it not taking that little bit further to improve on what I see as almost its only weakness (that being lack of top notch forums), especially when I lack the programming skills to be able to contribute in the area.

Just my 2 cents...

Andrey, I get multiple lines if i paste your first in example into notepade (using Mozilla and Win98 SE). But I believe you that there are situations where a problem might arise.

My problem with pasting code was that it will be automatically line-wrapped! Argh, I do use long lines with all the indenting and commenting. Your hack/fix also does a line-wrapping at 100.

And if your hacks are really bug fixes, consider submitting them to the Sourceforge bug tracker! Perhaps Ono finds some time and merges your patches.

"Compatibility" and "(in)dependence" are two things to be thought about... btw, newbb is cool and works fine and fast
