Hello all,

I have just set up Xoops on my server (hosted by godaddy) and all works except for adding modules.

What I Do:

Use FTP to copy all files into Modules directory.
Initiate install through module manager.

What I get:
error stating file not found.
Empty modules that can't be deleted.

I am not sure what is causing this, I have triple checked that all files are installed in the same location as the downloaded folder. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

jeremyg, Welcome to the XOOPS forum.

Check for proper module alignment. You have to have /modules/modulename/xoops_version.php
The downloaded module archive may contain some container directories not to be uploaded.

You also have to make sure the module directory name matches what is in the xoops_version.php file.

And when you look at the module make sure you are copying the actual module directory as well.


Some modules will come ready to be installed but will have the version name as part of the file name.

Example:

xmodule 1.0 is available for download(not really but just as an example). When you download it the file is listed as "xmodule1.0.zip" and this extracts to a folder by the name of "xmodule1.0".

We try to install it as xmodule1.0 and it says "file not found" and stops. when we look at the xoops_version.php it shows the module is listed as simply xmodule. We change the name of the directory to xmodule and it installs fine.



some modules will have multiple folders inside the download file which may contain documentation and other stuff.

Example:

We download xmodule2.0 and this time it extracts and inside this folder it has...
xmodule
docs
Frameworks
readme.txt

This time the folder with the module will be "xmodule" but before we can install it we see the other files. Chances are folders such as Frameworks needs to be copied over to work as well unless the contents of it already exist on the system.

Chances are here the readme.txt file would give directions on how to install.

So hope that explains enough to make it work for you.
