Could not connect to SMTP host

I recently moved my site to a new hosting plan with my host. Now, i get the error message "Could not connect to SMTP host" when i try to send mail and i had to change my new user regiatration to 'Activate automatically' from 'User activation'
I have played with the class.phpmailer.php and xoopsmultimailer.php and it is getting me nowhere.
Any help would be great!

Simply check the preferences for mail if the entered data is still valid.
