What do you do, as a XOOPS site owner, with registered user accounts that you know are no longer active? Some people change email addresses as often as they change clothes and after a while, the number of bounced emails can become a problem.

Also, if they have posted anything on the website, then you have all that information just hanging out there.

This could also become a problem for the hosting company of a XOOPS site.

I'd love to hear of creative ways to handle this.

Generally I will use the "Find Users" function and narrow down users that have not logged in for 3 months.

I will then send those users an email saying that their account will be terminated if not active within the next week.

after a week I will do the same process and whomever did not login no longer has an account.

It requires a little work, but thats part of being a good host.

Generally speaking, I know just about everyone who signs up on the web site. If there is a problem, I will ask them about it, either through e-mail, a phone call or even a personal visit.

For those I don't know I will send out an e-mail. If they don't log on or don't contact me within 10 days, the account is deleted.

Thanks for the replies. That is what I have been doing too. However, how do you handle the content they might have put up on the forums, comments, etc. Do you delete that information also, or leave it where it is? Or take it on a case by case basis?
