Can someone explain what needs to be done or point me to a thread or link with clear info? Pardon me if I'm just looking right at it without realizing.

I want to upgrade to GI Joe's Protector 3.04 from version 3.01.
What do I do? Do I modify files, uninstall stuff, overwrite stuff, start over clean, what?

Thanks for any input.
I don't know.

1. Replace the currently installed files with the corresponding files from the new version.

2. Update the module from the XOOPS admin page.

It's a good idea to do a backup first.

Thank you, I'll give it a go.
I don't know.

Broham, Thanks for the heads up on this latest version. I wish we could get GIJoe to post in here again.

After updating to 3.04, I received this message from Protector:

Quote:
phpmailer security hole! Change the preferences of mail from "sendmail" to another, or upgrade the core right now! (message by protector)

Anyone know what I should do about this?

I wonder if my mail would work by simply switching to PHPmail()?

Switched to SMTP mail...no problems with new user registration or sending mail and no complaints from Protector.

I guess GIJOE along with others (myself included) prefer to support their modules on their own sites. He does respond to stuff at his site where there is an active community for the Protector module.

Yes, the recommendation is to NOT use the sendmail() option in your Mail Settings. This was mentioned in a post here - command injection of phpmailer - and here is more information on another site - PHPMailer 0day remote command execution

Done this on my test site without problems.

I didn't delete/replace/overwrite the filters_enabled/disabled or /configs directories, though. Keeping the latter maintains your banned IP lists.

Understood

Good to see peeps from on here posting in the Forums on GIJoe's site - lots of good and interesting stuff on there.

@akitson
Just visited your site - think I might spend some time there over this coming weekend
