Converting the ldap hack to the official supported ldap mechanism

I just took over responsibility for a XOOPS site that was at 2.0.7 and I want to upgrade it to 2.0.16. I cloned the site on my Kubuntu box and, while upgrading, learned it used a ldap hack for authentication. What is the difference between this hack and the official ldap auth mechanism and how do I change from the hack to the real mechanism?

Ah, nevermind as I see the new auth section in the admin module... Silly me.
