I'm a student new to XOOPS. I'm hoping to build a website that would enable me:

to display & sell used items from my school bazar online (catalog, shopping cart, paypal,...)

I've already installed XOOPS and read some documentation. But still not sure about the things to do . I can now only assume I should start by picking the appropriate theme/module.

I know about the theme library and module repository, but I'm only interested in making the best choice and minimizing modification, can someone kindly give me some advice regarding the best template & module that would fit me needs.

There are a few more factors in determining what a "best fit" would be for your project. Here are some questions to help nail down the details you'll need to think about.

What is the school you are representing and do they already have an established website?

Are you looking for a "fancy" design that will "WOW" visitors, or would something that is simple and to the point suffice?

What kind of products will you be offering and what is the delivery method (Digital/Physical)?

Do you need to provide F.A.Qs on your site or any other form of support?

How much traffic are you expecting to receive on this site?

Is this site hosted on a shared server or a dedicated server?

Do you plan on integrating community features such as a Blog or a discussion forum?

When building a site, there are numerous factors to consider. The more information you can supply, the better we will be able to help you.

When it comes to choosing a base template for your school the best start is to think about what represents your school.

As in school colors, mascot, sports vs arts, etc

You are one person in a group of people so it is often ideal to take sometime and listen to what your peers think the website should reflect.

Remember that when you are making a website that its not going to be your personal place, but a common grounds for all of the students from all of the niches and cliques in your academic society.

Don't forget the teachers!

More often than not, a small project can become overwhelming quickly. I suggest that you concentrate less on the features that you are looking for and more on the design.

the modules are out there and easy to find, but finding that one theme that will speak to everyone that is acquainted with your school will be a task.
