Template Dir Structure

OK. I'm sorry this mus be an obvious answer.
But where are the template files located.
I can download the tar.gz, etc. But when I browse the site - where do they go? Are the all head in the dtabase?

Themes are cleverly hidden in the directory named "themes".
System templates are in modules/system/...

Thanks. I was able to find themes easily enough.
But for some reason the templates weren't as obvious.
Now just to figure out how to work with it all :)
