Over at the The Windows Package Manager we had a bandwidth problem. The program, which is free, needed to download big installers from our (xoops) site. Well, im going to post our solution here to help anyone who wants to cut down on bandwidth - The Coral internet cache. Go to http://www.coralcdn.org/overview/ to learn about it (It's not my project, so I don't want to tell people how to use it and that). But basically its a free project, an internet cache. you append something to then end of the links to your static files (graphics, downloads, etc.), and then it can be downloaded from the cache instead of your site - saving you bandwidth. I incorporated it a bit into XOOPS by changing some of the graphics and static file links into absolute links (eg, http://www.sitewithstuff.com/stuff.stuff). It can save you a lot of bandwidth. I suppose some day I will try to put it in a module or something, but if you have bandwidth problems I suggest you check it out. (i have nothing to do with Coral, i wish i was that smart, im just passing it on because it saved our internet lives).
