Using Local Avatars without uploading them??

Is there a way, a hack or something that would let me just set a directory on my server and use those as avatars, I'm really not looking forward to uploading all my avatars one at a time..lol.

If you search through the forums you will come accross a couple of posts that address your question here is one

I know there is another in the news article section but that is using there images but I am sure you could simply change the image info to suit your needs.
