Unable to write to main menu

All the sudden, when I try to install/uninstall a module I get a little "failed open file" in the upper left corner and at the bottom of the installation log it says "Unable to write to main menu". Any ideas on what this is and what I need to do to fix it?

check that your permissions on the /cache directory weren't reset. On *Nix machines they should be '777' on windows machines, the Web Process, usually IUSR_ needs full control on the folder.

Got it. Wasn't the cache directory, but the adminmenu.php file in that folder that needed the permissions change. Thanks for the help.
