As far as I know "delete" make only the deletion for the document's link.

At this time, "deleting" a document only removes it from access by users, not administrators. A complete deletion of documents is planned for a future release prior to version 1.0.

A lifecycle is used to move a document from one stage (folder) to another through a process of promoting the document. For example:

A user creates a document and applies a lifecycle to it. When the lifecycle is applied, it is moved to the first folder (stage) of the lifecycle. At that stage, someone reviews the document and makes changes. After they are done, the document is promoted to the next stage. This continues until it is promoted to the final stage.
