User stays logged in forever when not loggin out ?

Hi,

I'm new to XOOPS and I like it very much ! But I have a question.
I installed XOOPS and have the "Who's online block" activated. When I login my name is displayed. When I leave the page without loggin out, the next time (e.g. next day) I visit the page my name is still displayed as if I were logged in while I'm not.
Is this normal ? This is not preferrable because lots of users don't log out when leaving a site where they must login.

Regards,

Chris

Yes, this is 'normal', and I'll explain why

The who's online block uses what's called a 'garbage collector' routine to update the contents of the block. There's a 1 in 10 chance that the block will update when it is viewed. This is done to reduce the number of queries to the database, and thus to improve the speed of your XOOPS powered site. For small sites this means that the block doesn't get updated frequently tho, while for busy sites, it is quite accurate. If you want to have the block updating itself more often (thus creating more database queries), you can read this post here.
