Hi, can anyone help?

I just got a domain > http://www.safclan.co.uk
from http://www.oneandone.co.uk

and i just got hosting from http://www.surpasshosting.com

how do i link the domain to it?
coz i want to upload XOOPS using an FTP program and
it cannot find the ftp site, maybe because my domain comapany hasnt resolved it to the host, but how would i?
there is NO address for the host!

in my domain control panel it has nothing about my DNS servers, and surpass give me the DNS servers to use with the domain, so is there anyone way of resolving it?

When you first signed up with Surpass, they sent you an email with your username and password. They also sent you dns information.

What you need to do in order to get your names to resolve is to go to where you registered your domain names. Somewhere in the control panel for your name registrar, you should have the ability to change the dns servers (domain name servers). Put in the dns addresses that surpass sent you.

Once you've done that, it will take 24-72 hours for the name to completely resolve. In the meantime, you can use the ip address that they sent you to work on setting up your site.

in my domain settings there is nothing about DNS servers, i have checked, doubled check and triple checked.

is there any other way than DNS?

Your hosting provider should have passed you this information (I know mine did!) but anyway in simple terms - DNS "Roll-over" is where the newly registered name gradually is accepted through the entire internet to match the name to your server.

You cannot do anything to speed this up. If you are lucky it will take less than 24 hrs - but it can take up 72 hrs in some extreme cases.

The interesting thing is that it is a gradual process so some people will see the site before others. (I find that BT customers are amongst the last to be updated! :))

Just be patient. It will happen soon enough. (Gives you another day or so to think on content :))

This Max100 is doing promo the site he keeps mentioning.

I'd say you want to stop this it you don't use the hosting he keeps mentioning. I'm not saying it's bad hosting or anything. This is a sneaky approach to getting web devs to look at what he's got.

He's probably driving everyone else nuts on other dev forums as well.

He got me on one his twit posts...I tried helping him with an issue just like others have.

I don't think max100 is playing any games, I think he's just really confused. I think he's having a few problems grasping the concepts of dns, and possibly a few others as well. I'm willing to help him if I can, because I can vaguely remember when I didn't understand those things either.

I took a look at the place where he registered his domain. I wasn't impressed. It wouldn't surprise me if they don't give you a way to change your nameservers. My guess is that everything is designed to point to their servers, not someone elses.

It appears that the name is resolving to a site, however, it is not Surpass, and it won't be until he gets his nameservers changed.

Don't let any of his posts reflect negatively on Surpass Hosting. I'm using them, and so far, they've been nothing but the best. At this point, I'd recommend them to anyone.

I believe you when you said that your control panel has no place to change name servers. I think that is because they want you to purchase hosting from them too.

They say that they have both phone and email support. Contact them and give them the 2 nameserver addresses (they start with ns or dns) that came in your welcome email from Surpass, and ask them to make them the primary domain servers for your domain. If they refuse, you have my permission to use the same f*** word on them that almost got you banned here. I understand your frustration if you feel like you're being falsely accused, but you have to handle it without getting out of line yourself. You also need to remember that no one owes you anything here - everybody helps because they want to. Be nice, and don't be demanding. You'll get a lot more help that way.

You've got my email address - drop me an email or pm me at either here or at Surpass (my posting name in the Surpass forum is john now) and let me know what happens with the domain name, because that is the first step to getting you up and going.

I have sent thousands of emails to 1&1 and they
have not replied, so I will change domain companies as soon as I can.

And guess what!, they said that the DNS numbers on THEIR .uk domains cannot be changed, and say the only thing they can change is the 'IPS' but Im not doing that even if I know how, I am definitly changing domain company.

Could I still get my domain name from another comapany?
Or will they keep it for a limited time?

I believe they did say that they would allow you to transfer your domain to another registrar. There are a lot of them out there, and everyone has their favorite, but I've used http://www.directnic.com for many years and have yet to have a problem. I've had 50-60 domains with them at one time. You would need to set up an account with them, and see what is required to transfer the domain from 1&1 to Directnic. Probably just a few email approvals. You'll have to pay Directnic for another year, but they will add that on to whatever time you have left with 1&1, which appears to be about 2 years.
