News Module Issues

hey guys,

Can you guys please fix the News Modules so the submit screen has the two boxes as it does in the admin area where a user can post a blurb/intro text in the top box and the rest of the article in the bottom one?

The way it is now, the admin has to go in and do it manually for each article submitted otherwise the whole article shows up on the news page instead of just a blurb.

In the mean while, can someone tell me how I can fix it?

Max,

This has been done intentionally, because this way news items get edited by the editor who is supposed to look at the articles that are submitted. Most of the time, a website wants to use a single style of writing and displaying articles, and this sort of ensures that a single person or editors group reads through the articles before posting them. So once again, this isn't one of your 'bugs' but a feature that has been thought through.

What we can and probably will do in the future versions, is add the ability to give editor-access to the news module (and other article type content management modules), thus, giving them only access to the articles admin, and not the module and category admin (now you get all if you have admin access to the module). That way, you can organise who gets access to what admin functions.
And maybe, we'll add the option to have the two fields like you request, but the previous feature I just described kind of defeats that purpose.

Herko, I understand why you guys did it this way and that is fine, but you guys left the admin with no options.

Perhaps you can fix it so the core automatically breaks down the articles submitted by regular members into a blurb with amount of charcters set by admin and the rest should have a More... link to the rest of the article?

Furthermore, more flexible and extensive permissions to be set by admin are badly needed so admins can allow individuals to have admin permissions ONLY over their own work.

Otherwise the software is great and I am pleased to see there are no bugs thus far. I think I have tested every single feature so far and have not found any bugs at all and the software is FAST. So, I hope you guys boost its power with robust permissions features which is badly needed and a more robust Special sections module which shows the author's name/user name, how many people read the item etc. and allows for groups permissions with individual authority over their own work etc.

If you guys do all this then Xoops, without any other modules even, will be as robust as they come. The more I use it the more I am starting to like it and it sort of breaks my heart cause my hands are tied due to lack of permissions control.
