XOOPS: Work on XOOPS 2.6.0 Presentation Layer has started

We are very happy to let you know that Eduardo has started to work on the "Presentation Layer" in XOOPS 2.6.0, using his fantastic Common Utilities as basis to merge them into the Core

We all know and love the work done by Eduardo over the years, and therefore we know that XOOPS 2.6.0 will have an awesome Admin GUI for the Core and for the modules!

This looks gorgeous, this is really what we need XOOPS to be.
Shouldn't it be XOOPS 3 instead of 2.6 though, so many things that change... :P

It probably will be, but at this moment, it is not important. Once we get closer to the release, then we'll think about it. Right now the focus is on development!

I don't talk much, but I am not that happy with the new xoops becoming another wp clone. Not just the looks, but what is planned with the themes etc is very wp.
I'll keep a close eye on the progress and hope for the best :)

Chco2, could you please give a more detailed list of things that you would be concerned?

What do you like and you don't like about being "very WP"?

This is the time right to raise any issues, and come up with suggestions for improvements. If you see something that you like, please share with us.

The goal is to make everything much easier to develop, especially themes. Personally I have no problems with looking for "Best Practices" from other Open Source projects and incorporating them into XOOPS. Unless there is something that we've missed and it would make things much harder for our designers.

So please start a new topic on the Forums and highlight your concerns there - we want to learn from it....

For my take on it, the update to the presentation layer looks pretty fantastic.

As far as if it's being too "WP" or not ... it's not so much of an issue to me. WP has some pretty fantastic themes and seems to have some similar capabilities as a CMS in general.

Even if it's a slow pace, it's good to see things still moving forward. Today's heavy reliance on social media has more or less slowed down development almost everywhere.
