extCal is an event/calendar module developed exclusively for XOOPS.

JJ Dai from XOOPS France has added several new features, among them an "Weekly/daily Agenda View" and he also fixed some bugs.

This new 2.27 Beta is now ready for testing

Important

- The module uses the Framework "ModuleClasses", it is necessary to install it on your site.
- The module works only on xoops 2.5x

I remind, the data undertakes from the computer. The computer not in utf-8, and a site in utf-8

Though at inclusion of other tab, day of week is displayed correctly

No answer? I ask to rename Beta in alfa, and without the decision of this question not to let out release.

I found two bugs.

1. To access event details, an user must have module administrator rights.

2. Week Calendar incorrectly displays multiday events which pass beyond one week.
Say I have an event starting Fri, 2011-09-02 and ending Sun, 2011-09-11.
In the week Aug 29 - Sep 04 view, the event is visible on all days, not only Fri, Sat, Sun.

Can you ask one of the Russian developers to help us on that? It's much easier to test it if you have a Russian installation.

I observed that the problem with week view occurs if a month changes in that week. I tried wit an event at 14-25.09.2011, then it was dislpayed on correct days.

And a feature request.

You could make the new_event.php accept some event data passed via GET variables (at least start date). Then it would be possible to make a "New event" button in a day view so that a submitted event's date is automatically adjusted to actually viewed day (now only current date is preset).

Another bug regarding permissions.

When an unauthorized user tries to access extcal's main page, he should be redirected back with standard message "You have no permissions to enter this zone". Instead, a header part of a period view page is displayed (with e.g. links to days of week and previous/next week), only content (events) is prevented from being displayed.

extCal 2.27Beta modification - events displayed by category

I present two modified extCal templates, presenting events grouped by categories. I made them to use eXtCal as a time-planner for a small team (each person is represented by a category).

Categories are emphasized by a coloured background. There is an edit link before each event (the link is under a special, smaller icon, which I resized especially for this purpose).

This template lacks another improvement. Near each category name, there should be a link to add a new event. New event form accessed via that links should be prefilled with a category name and daily date. That's why, a few posts ago, I asked for implementing a feature of passing new event's parameters via HTML _GET variable.

And, if all categories are displayed at the bottom of a view, they may be used as links to get the view narrowed to only one category (at the moment I don't know why it may be useful, but perhaps it may).

To go further - categories can be sorted by name and given a sort order attribute.

Please note that these modifications are really not an artwork. Splitting daily events into categories is performed with nested loops:

This of course is not optimal, rather some sort function should be used. But I didn'd want to make too deep modifications - to limit interfering with what the module authots have made..

A few suggestions regarding the concept of ordering events by category. They involve modifying the data processing scripts, not only templates. I hope the module authors will find them interesting.

1. The presentation mode could be configure via preferences. You could add a parameter like:
- events display order: contiguous list / split by categories

2. These two modes can be passed from data processing to templates in a uniform way - as an array:
$daily_events = array([category][events])
If a contiguous mode is selected, all events are put into a single category, e.g. [category=0][all_events].
If split mode is selected, the array would look like [cat=1][events],[cat=2][events]...
Array like this would be easily processed in a template.

3. You may consider implementing this mechanism also in blocks. I prepared a extcal_block_day_by_cat and it is quite useful in my implementation (for clarity I didn't include it in former comment).

4. You may use the bar with category names under the events display, for making the display more customizable.
As I mentioned before, clicking a category name may direct into view of only this single category.
To go further, a checkbox near each category name can be added to enable selecting more than one category to be displayed.
Yet I know why it can be useful - just to narrow the scope if there are many items displayed

And two other suggestions.

5. You may consider making add / edit feature available from user side, not only from XOOPS admin. In my team-timeplanner implementation it is useful to let users modify event data and now I must give them module admin rights, which is not what I want.

6. You may merge "normal" and "agenda" views and use another preference option to set desired look. I think this will make the module simpler, now so many tabs make it quite messy.

To go far further - you may think of using a drag and drop feature to place events on a timetable - just like it is done on the XOOPS blocks administratin page. And make the daily agenda view look "Outlook-like" - with events spanned over hrs/mins table, with showing overlaping events. I realize it is not to be implemented in the nearest version, but maybe later?

It seems to come from a line

include_once './admin/admin_header.php';

in event.php.
The comment says that this line is added to provide access to $pathImageIcon variable. Unfortunately, it rejects non-admins from processing the script.
Maybe it is possible to provide these images in some other way.

Hello.

A question about "Agenda week".

Starting hours before 08:00 are grouped on the first line.
Last hours after 21:00 are grouped on the last row.

How can i change this? I need a full "timesheet" (24 hours and 7 days)!

Line 31 : change "nécessite" by "necessite"

The accent make impossible to validate the general admin preference page ! (don't know why this page only)
