What is Fantastico installer?
Fantastico is an additional component for CPANEL that may be added to your web hosting account. This feature enables a web site owner to quickly install dozens of the leading open source programs and content management systems into their web space, with little or no technical knowledge.

It will basically give you a list of available programs and install them with one click.

It sounds very appealing for the newcomer to webiste building as there is little or no work required for setting up.

Some problems worth noting are as follows:

1- Many web hosts do not update these scripts. I have seen many fantastico scripts offereing xoops 2.0.5.2 version when the latest is 2.0.9.2!

It could take you longer and require more initial expertise to update this script that to install the latest version manually.

2- Some web hosts will configure all the fantastico scripts to install onto one database. Not a problem, but may cause a headacke with maintenance later, plus DB backups can become very large.

3- There have also been reports of fantastico installers not setting correct permissions for certain files/folders.

Treat Fantastico with some caution, especially if an older script version is offered.

 subdirectory

Fantastico installs XOOPS in a subdirectory. Will this be any different from installing XOOPS in the root directory as far as performance?

 Re: subdirectory

No difference in performance, just in the URL. If you want your XOOPS site at http://www.yoursite.com , install it in the root or the site. If installed in a subdirectory, unless mapped as a subdomain, the URL would be http://www.yoursite.com/subdirectory .

The Web site functions the same though.

 405 POST not supported

I've recently installed XOOPS using Fantastico but when I login, I get only this error message:

405 POST not supported

Resin 2.1.14 (built Thu Jul 1 18:39:55 PDT 2004)

I can't tell the XOOPS version but the file timestamp is Aug 15, 2005.

Did you know ?

You can easily change passwords in the database in case you lost them. You can even let phpmyadmin convert them into the md5 format in which they are stored.
