Voting October XOOPS Site of the month
Here we are with the voting for the XOOPS Site of the month contest October 2006.
For we decided to make it available only after registration on xoopsfactory, we want to make it a bit more interesting for those who will take some minutes, visit the nominated sites and fill out the voting form.
From all submissions we will determine 2 by coincidence which will get a link from our startpage (which is actually a PR7) to their website (which is in their profile) for four weeks. So remember to keep your profiles up to date.
If there are any ideas to attract more people, your welcome! Sponsors are welcome too with ideas for nominated sites and voters!

New users guide for installing CBB 3.07
A guide has been written for new users to assist them with
1. The location and download of the three directories required for installation of CBB 3.07
2. The upload of the directories and installation of CBB
3. Screen shots of the editors avilable for use on CBB 3.07
4. A method for setting the default template (Until it is made selectable in administration)
The guide is part of a started 'Users Manual' for CBB and is hosted on xoops.docs. You will find the guide here. New users need to be aware the guide assumes you have some knowledge about managing your site and uploading modules. If you are really new you should also avail yourself of the operations guide from hereand use the FAQ section here at xoops.org.

Version 4.0 of Netquery, the complete PHP/SQL open-source toolkit of network information utilities, introduces a fully integrated spambot blocker based on version 2.06 of Michael Hampton's "Bad Behavior" utility. Its purpose is to deal with problems caused by automated scripts that attempt to read everything on your site, harvest email addresses, and post spam and false referrers, trying to advertise their own links through your web pages. It works to prevent spambots from accessing your site by analyzing their actual HTTP requests and comparing them to known profiles.
Netquery's major features currently include the following:
- access monitoring & log management,
- NEW spambot "bad behavior" screening,
- geoip & "top countries" usage mapping,
- multidomain & IP/AS whois lookups,
- autodiscovery for whois TLD server,
- DNS and Dig (ANY, SOA, NS, MX) queries,
- email address format & MX validation,
- port check with services lookup option,
- HTTP HEAD and GET requests,
- ICMP pings (local and/or remote),
- traceroutes (local and/or remote),
- looking glass router interrogation,
- updateable GeoIP & ports data paks,
- user inputs with admin notice & approval,
- multi-instance sideblocks in CMS editions,
- admin selectable CSS stylesheet options,
- full W3C XHTML 1.1 & CSS compliance.
Although the original "Bad Behavior" utility includes some generic capabilities, it was designed primarily as a plugin for the WordPress blogging application. Therefore, its application under other environments lacks some desirable interface and database mangement features. The Netquery v4.0 modular packages are intended to overcome those deficiencies with full Xoops integration. The downloads package includes all required spambot blocker files and add a convenient admin panel interface, just as they do for other Netquery features. From there, the administrator can modify the spam blocker's operational options, can select entries from its blocked spam data table, can perform Whois lookups on selected IP addresses, and can delete any or all of the listed entries.

The SmartFactory and XOOPS.org Firefox Search Plugins
Fellow XOOPSers ! I know some of you already did this in the past for previous version of Firefox but I thought I could share this anyway with you again for the latest Firefox 2.0 release ! I have created a Firefox search engine plugin for The SmartFactory, FRXOOPS.org and another one for XOOPS.org. In summary, this means that you would be able, at any time, to search either one of these sites using Firefox search box ! These plugins uses the Open Search description format for search plugins. Plugins that use the OpenSearch description syntax are compatible with IE 7 and Firefox. Because of this, they are now the recommended format for use on the web.
