XOOPS: Detailed guide on installing Xoops on IIS.

I've been running Xoops on my site for well over 3 1/2 months now & I constantly get emails from people asking for help on installing Xoops on their IIS Web Servers.

I decided to take the time and created a step by step guide on how to install Xoops on an IIS Web Server.

Things covered in the guide: all the files needed, configuration of PHP and MySQL, & the actual installation of Xoops on an IIS 4, 5, or 5.1 Web Server.

I'm running IIS (just on my personal XP pro box) with XOOPS and notice that when I disable HTTP Keepalives, the maximum users doesn't change but it allows more users more quickly since it doesn't hold their sessions, and therefore makes it much less likely that you will get a "server too busy" on the 6th person visiting (each browser tends to take 2 connections, there are 10 connections max on a NT Workstation / XP Pro box).

My question is, how helpful are the HTTP Keepalives? I know it's intended to keep the connections alive and make the next page access slightly faster, but does anyone have any firm impressions of it's real impact? Are there any other implications to turning it off other than what I've mentioned?

I realize this may be a bit better topic for, say, a IIS newsgroup but I'm just too damn lazy

Thanks for your comments on the article -- I've had it for awhile but just put it online as I kept getting more & more requests on how to setup XOOPS on IIS. People are obviously interested as I have gotten well over 100 hits on it in less than 24 hours.

As for your question about http keepalives I have included what the response was from a Microsoft IIS MVP.

No need to make a guide !
Here is a 3 step to run
- Switch off IIS
- Install EasyPHP
- Install XOOPS

That's it.

HI Jeffery,
Maybe you can help me out... I just upgraded to PHP 4.3, it solved my problem about loading extensions, but now I have a new problem in that i get blank pages when using framebrowser or wfsections modules, maybe its a setting in the php.ini? Have any ideas I really need to solve this quickly.
