The only backpoint is that it might have difficulty fitting into 800x600 browser resolutions and thus not all themes can suppor this hack.. IMHO

What i mean is that the length of the news leads in confusion.
As you can see on your website is that it can look like this:
news1 news2
........news4
news3.
If it would look like this:
new1 news2
......
news3 news4
where news1 ist longer than news2, it wouldn't be that confusing.
