XOOPS: JDLL 2005 : meet Xoopsers in real life

Next 14 and 15 october, the JDLL 2005
(Journées Du Logiciel Libre - Open Source Software Days) would take place in Lyon (France).

Your favourite cms will be present the whole day of Friday the 14.

The french speaking Xoops team will be there with a stand, and will propose full Xoops installation and configuratin demonstrations .

- Admin settings
- Groups management
- Installation and modules configuration
- Block management
- Thèmes and templates

There you would be able to meet each others, and ask your questions about Xoops.
Should be there (so far) : Alain01, Fooups, Kris.

We are going to end the day with a presentation of Xoops (with surprise at the end) between 6.30 to 8.00 pm, and finish up with a very friendly evening in a restaurant in town.
If you are interested by the meeting and the restaurant, please, let us know for obvious organisational reasons.

Note: We could move the presentation from the Friday evening to the Saturday 15th morning, 10.00 to noon if needed.
Anyway, you are all welcome to this IRL meeting!

JDLL 2005: One day in the life of Alain(01)

At the time of the Days of the Free Software 2005 being held October the 14, and 15 2005 in Lyon on the campus of Doua, Alain01 organized the management of a stand for XOOPS to promote our favorite CMS.

The stand
7h59: The arrival and the installation of the stand. The future visitors will be able to note that nothing was left randomly: panels of presentation of the CMS, portable computer and video-projector, plates (with the A5 format) to carry: all so that the visitors have a good memory of this first contact with our tool. At this time, the concern of our "Public Relation" starts to appear: will the multitude come? Didn't I forget anything? Is only one water bottle sufficient?

8h01 - 12h00: Alain can find the arguments "marketing" to promote XOOPS at a debate with interested people. Wouldn't it have been commercial in a previous life? Would it have been metamorphosed in Solo?

Our marathonian of XOOPS will have only a few minutes of pause, time to take some photographs. But as we can see, he seems jealous of the Tee-shirt of his neighbor. When will XOOPS have Tee-shirts for the representations?

12h00 - 14h00: Alain seems a little tired. The water bottle is on the same level as the sheets of presentation: low tide! It is necessary to restock at the same time the stand and the "Public Relation". It is this moment which is chosen by Fooups and Kris to find Alain and to bring a little food to him (mixed salad, to keep the form). It will be necessary to go to print the new ones to be able to hold the afternoon and saturday presentations.
Indeed, in fact more then 70 sheets will leave in less than two days.

17h30: A little respite in this day. We intervene to speak about the installation of XOOPS with Alain. "Thin, it is even simpler than than I thought" will say when it learns that XOOPS creates the tables with the installation automatically if those do not exist. And yes! even the pros can still learn some on XOOPS!

18h00: We leave our stand, after one day of presentation of XOOPS. And in front of such a success, we engage, in spite of our personal requirements, to maintain the stand the day of Saturday.

Our marathonian of the XOOPS continues his performance by animating the conference on XOOPS given in the buildings of his laboratory (for accustomed: the same room as used for the meeting of April 2005). His partner, Nathalie, had prepared us some salted pastry makings. Succulent! We throw ourselves on top of them. But we did not come to eat, but to speak about XOOPS. Once this splendid in-case absorptive, everyone becomes again studious and concentrates on the subject of the conference: XOOPS! Three points will be approached this day: the AFUX, CD-Romanian and XOOPS 2.2.x.

The AFUX

Kris takes the changing of Alain to present the AFUX, the French-speaking Association of the Users of XOOPS. This association was created to give an official and moral existence to the French-speaking Community of the Users of XOOPS, and to give the means of developing an effective promotion of this cms.

CD-Romanian

While certain members of the team finalized the presentation of the AFUX, others concentrated on the preparation of the JDLL and the launching of two projects. Among the strategies of promotion of xoops, there is the creation of a cdrom of which the goal is to bring to a person the possibility to use the cms without having an internet connection. Alain01 presents to us the contents of this support and its methods of aquisition. The schedule of conditions defined by Alain was as follows: "a guy arrives on a deserted island, he must have everything at hand to work with XOOPS". This cdrom distyributed by the afux will comprise the last stable version of the core of XOOPS and some patchs of update of preceding versions, a selection of modules and topics, all this sorted by categories, the complete documentation of XOOPS France and the tutos flash of Kris, like four functional sites of demonstration, personal, community, window, and commercial as well as sites of demonstration (Community, window, Intranet...). The idea of CD was well accomodated by the participants, but it still remains to determine which will be its price and the methods of diffusion (like for the updates). Lastly, this project will be finalized during November 2005, and will be, we hope for it, a superb Christmas present to be offered....
NB: CD-Romanian is not provided with a power generating unit for those and those which want to leave to a deserted island. Inform for your portable supply.

XOOPS 2.2.3

Then Alain makes us a presentation of the XOOPS 2.2.3 with "Solo". This version is always in RC, and we made a demonstration of its possibilities, for people who did not take time to look at what will be this RC. Among the new functionalities, one can note the modification of the management of the blocks (possibility of putting blocks in the interface of the administration, duplication of blocks), the modification of the form of inscription (which in particular makes it possible to make choose with the person in which group it wishes to go).
A question/response is held afterwards on the future functionalities of XOOPS and the actions under consideration of the afux

The restaurant
After also day, a small well deserved rest lasts. Alain can blow off steam during a few hours. But it will be necessary to be ready to attack the following day. For the day of Saturday, Alain01 will exchange its squirrel against a cat, Fooups being absent, and Thecat reinforcing the team of promotion of XOOPS. They will need some well bus as of the opening, of the people will wait our stand! The demonstrations will be connected all the morning at the rate/rhythm of the conferences of this day.

* Duration of an exchange: 2min at half an hour

* List of participants Denisdlu, Elrayser, FrHe, Koala_sprint and all the incognitos which did not dare to be made known
* Installation-demonstrations carried out: + of 20 including one for a computer graphics expert interested by XOOPS
* Distributed presentations: + of 70
* Drunk water bottles: 1
* Drunk cider bottles: 2 including 1 cider house (thank you Elrayser)
* Consumed salads: 2
* Morels: 5 per plate (2 plates)
* Jug of red: 1 (for 7 people)

Saturdays

Saturday midday: Hour of the changing by Kris, Alain can regain his tender health. After midday is held like a long river at the rate/rhythm of the answers questions on xoops...
Saturday 18 hours! end of the JDLL, but there remain always visitors with the stand. The last questions are taken in note, and the promise of a response by mail is given and go taken for next "the insane days of the....."

These two memorable days convinced us that XOOPS can touch the world. Indeed, we did not think of meeting such an important public. This demonstration assure us the relevance of our presence in this type of events.

for me it's very important and gives a good look and feel to XOOPS (less geek).
We should promote our baby.
All the french team members are very invested in this task.
