Thanks for quick reply Mith.

Request, though. How can I make use of FCKeditor in XOOPS 2.2? Can I chose it as XOOPS 'default' somewhere? AMS module doesn't bring it up as a choice. If I've installed it correctly should I see it available somewhere?

There isn't a site-global setting for the XoopsEditor at the moment.
It's a per-module option so it's up to each module's developer to adapt the module to the new framework.
The latest News module is already compliant.
If AMS is not,i'm pretty sure it will be updated as soon as possible.

Many thanks for sharing this with the community. This is an excellent editor that's cross browser compatible. Lots of other new features like admin defined templates.

It would be nice if there is an option for webmasters what editor they prefer as default, just like the case is with selecting a theme.
It should not depend upon module-developpers if they integrate FCKeditor or another editor into their code yes or no.
This way XOOPS will be more accessible for other type of editors.
FCKeditor is a nice editor by the way, one I like and prefer very very much.

An end user, not even the webmaster, can select his prefered editor, either through edit page on-fly or set from a member page.

We, especially ralf and me, are planning some talks about more control on editors, tho we have not got chance for details yet.

I need help.
I am a XOOPS newby.
I downloaded fckeditor and I made the installation step 1 but I don't made step 3 because I don't find fckconfig-xoops.js. Where is it?
Another question: in root of zip file there is editor_registry.php: where I have to upload this file?
I'm using wf-section but after installation of fckeditor I don't see changing.
Can I use fckeditor in wf-section v2.07b3?
Thank you.
Bye.

I haven't tested the editor with wf-section but if this module makes use of XoopsEditor framework it should be ready for FCKeditor too.

The template feature is very nice. The only problem is that after the initial save you are not able to edit the html. It only displays code and there does not seem to be any way to display the html again?

Has someone tested it with XFsection 1.07 or 1.08?

What have i got to do to integrate it in this module?

Thank you for customising FCKeditor for xoops.

I have already installed Content on my XOOPS 2.2.3, and it comes with the FCKeditor bundled with the module. This FCKeditor can allow image uploads (from user local drive).

But I want FCKeditor for my News and Popnupblog modules. So I installed your FCKeditor. But your FCKeditor does not allow image uploads. I read the config file and it says leave the image_upload as false. Changing it to true didn't work.

It would be nice if image upload is allowed like in Content's FCKeditor.

Thank you very much in anticipation.

Here's some fixes I've figured out for the FCKeditor itself:

1. Open class/xoopseditor/fckeditor/fckeditor.php
2. Go to line 60. Comment out this line and place the following below it:

$HtmlValue = $this->Value;

This will fix the html code problem when editing items. What is happening is that the html code stored in the DB has HTMLSpecialChars done twice on it.
3. Image uploads: you should probably use the uploads directory in your main directory. Here's the fix. open class/xoopseditor/fckeditor/editor/filemanager/browser/default/connectors/php/config.php
Set $Config['Enabled'] = true;
Set $Config['UserFilesPath'] = "/uploads/" (or whatever the root path to your uploads is.

4. One other file to make sure to use your php settings in the fckconfig.js. Don't use the fckconfig-xoops.js file. If you change the uploads setting as above, this will fix the problems mentioned in the fckconfig-xoops.js file. Find the following lines in the fckconfig.js file. Mine have already been changed, but you will probably see 'asp':
var _FileBrowserLanguage    = 'php' ;    // asp | aspx | cfm | lasso | perl | php | py

var _QuickUploadLanguage    = 'php' ;    // asp | aspx | cfm | lasso | php

Make sure to change 'asp' to 'php'.

In the formfckeditor.php file find the following line in the render function:
$oFCKeditor->Config['CustomConfigurationsPath'] = $oFCKeditor->BasePath.'fckconfig.js';

Make sure that fckconfig-xoops.js is changed to fckconfig.js.

That should be it. Any questions? Send me a note.

Hi Cjcomm

Thank you for the detailed reply, but I cannot find the following 2 lines in fckconfig.js at all:

var _FileBrowserLanguage = 'php' ;

var _QuickUploadLanguage = 'php' ;

Am I supposed to add these two lines? If so, where?

I uncommented
FCKConfig.LinkUploadURL = FCKConfig.BasePath + 'filemanager/upload/php/upload.php' and commented the .asp line.
And did the same for linkupload, imagebrowser, etc.

Still didn't work. Cannot upload images.

Then I copied the Content module's fckeditor directory into /class/xoopseditor/ but the editor didn't even show up.

You can find these 2 lines in the file that comes with FCKeditor (not the modified XOOPS version).

I've tried the recommendations from Cjcomm too, but didn't manage to get it working.

thanks

Do you mean the fckconfig.js file instead of fckconfig-xoops.js file?

I cannot find the two lines in fckconfig-xoops.js.

Have you tried Content? The Content module has a FCKeditor inside it and it works great. I tried to copy its FCKEditor dir into /class/xoopseditor but it didnt work at all.

---

Okay, you mean download the original FCKEditor from fckeditor.net and get the fckconfig.js file there? Who would've thought of that! It wasn't stated at in the post at all.

---

After following the instructions, it still didn't work. Still cannot upload images. The button is there but image isn't uploaded.

thank you.

Thanks frankblack.

The it was a generic concern for third-party WYSIWYG editors: the way they hanle upload is not trustable or not compliant with XOOPS before much homework is done.

The "homework" is kind of complex/boring, even there is not a generic methodology you can follow.
Some points:
1 is it easy/possible to force the editor using XOOPS upload forlder?
2 is the uploaded item (like file name, mime type) sanitized or checked completely?

Hello All
The right way to do it (as I can see) is the "Inbetween editor" way - giving each user group it's own editor bars (that way only moderators and admins will have the needed abilities)

and every admin can give exectly what his users/groups need

I finally tried it out on XoopsForge, and it definitely looks wonderful. I have a couple questions about it though;

1) Will the HTML re-edit be fixed in the next XOOPS version?

2) Will the next version allow use of the XOOPS Image Manager?

As much as I love the FCKeditor's basic capabilities, the Image Manager is very important to me.

Maybe I missed something. I recently decided to check out XOOPS after not finding Joomla/Mambo very intitive for end-users to use at all. XOOPS seems to fit this bill quite nicely (in terms of being able to educate end-users within a resonable amount of time..lol) on how to use it.

SO I have a site, downloaded xoola 2.0.13 via my CPanel interface. I then upgraded to 2.2.3 via XOOPS website, then upgraded again to XOOPS 2.2.4 upgrade patch.

I read through this thread and downloaded xoops22_editor_fckeditor.zip and dropped it into my class/xoopseditor/ directory on my server. But when I visit the news module or try to create a new news item (with the default XOOPS new module, I am still seeing the existing (non FCKEditor) interface.

Wanting to test that I didnt mess up the FCKEditor, I downloaded "Edito" to see if it was working with the FCKEditor, and it is.

IS there some configuration setting I am missing somewhere to enable the default news module to use the FCKEditor in 2.2.4?

Thanks in Adavance!

Hi,
I must be doing something wrong.

I have uploaded the package to XOOPS/class/xoopseditor/ and it doesn't seem to have worked.
I have demoed FCKeditor on http://www.fckeditor.net/ so I know what to expect from it.
It maybe a problem with somthing else though, as I have other editors installed and even a module where you choose your editor before entering an document (MAGAZINE module), and with each editor choosen, they all give the same default text entry box.

What are the specifics, such as server settings, for running the editor?

I am using xoops-2.2.3a-Final and XOOPS seems to run fine. Tried using Firefox and IE6 and choosing different editors but get same results.. displaying the default editor.

Help!

I'm sorry if I wasn't clear.

In the /class/xoopseditor/fckeditor/editor/filemanager/browser/default/connectors/php/
directory, you have to explicitly enable uploads there.

The following two lines are what you have to change:

// SECURITY: You must explicitelly enable this "connector". (Set it to "true").
$Config['Enabled'] = true ;  This will be set to false initially

// Path to user files relative to the document root.
$Config['UserFilesPath'] = 'XOOPS_ROOT./uploads' ;

Be sure to set your uploads directory to readable and writable by whoever needs it. Obviously, you're going to be real careful about who has access.

Hey cjcomm,

I made the changes to the class/xoopseditor/fckeditor/editor/filemanager/browser/default/connectors/php/config.php file as per your directions. But I still can't upload images, so there's obviously more I need to do. I'm a little confused by the fckconfig.js vs. fckconfig-xoops.js part - I'm not sure how I would not use one of them. Do I just delete it? And neither one seems to have the FileBrowserLanguage line I'm supposed to edit.

I'm really hoping that 2.2 with the new News module and FCKeditor will be the solution that will make a particular client happy - right now they have 2.0 with AMS and Koivi and are finding it really aggravating. But image upload is kind of a non-negotiable demand - it's an online magazine and you can't really have a magazine without pictures.

Dear cjcomm

I followed all your instructions but still cannot get it to upload images.

The FCKeditor shows up when I configure my News module to use it. But when I tried to upload an image using the "Upload" tag in the Image Properties pop-up window, it said "Your file has been successfully uploaded to the server". But the image did not show up, and was nowhere to be found on the server.

I was able to use the built-in FCKeditor in the Content module to upload images. The Content's FCKeditor does not have the Upload tag in the Image Properties pop-up window though. I clicked on the Browse Server button and the Resources Browser window popped up, and then I could upload images and even create new folders.

I am also not able to create new folders and upload images in the Resources Browser of the xoops_FCKeditor here.

There is nothing wrong with my server settings and file permissions, because I can upload and create folder using the Content module's built-in FCKeditor (which, unfortunately, I cannot transfer to /class/xoopseditor/ and make it work).

Note that I am using the xoops22_editor_fckeditor.zip here and not the original fckeditor from fckeditor.net.

Are you able to create folder and upload images?

Thank you very much in anticipation.

i tried to get the image upload to work too...

i would like to enable a per user image upload directory.

I set the configuration values in editor\filemanager\upload\php\config.php

$Config['Enabled'] = true ;
$Config['UserFilesPath'] = '/uploads/';

I tried to set the upload dir by;

$uploadDir = "Path/to/my/dir/";
$fck_TextArea = new XoopsFormFckeditor("description", "usersMessage", "this is my Message");
$GLOBALS["UserFilesPath"] = $uploadDir;

I chmod the directory to 777, but it still says, that I do not have permission to create in this folder and that the quota size could not be calculated for this folder...

do you have any ideas or any suggestions how I could enable the upload?

thank you very much. I would appreciate any help.

Hi Charly

Before you try to do per user upload dir, can you do any upload at all?

And can you get the Image Browser to work - click Browser Server, and click Create New Folder and Upload etc.

I cannot help as I am struggling myself. But if you share what you have done, maybe we can figure out something.

Thank you.

Thanks for your interests in the editor and your PMs to me.
However it is sort of out of date. Will it be re-actviated? perhaps

Currently I would personally recommend the koivi editor by samuels, which has also been implemented in the XoopsEditorFramework

hi phppp

Thank you for the reply and the suggestion to use Koivi. I tried Koivi but it isn't fully compatible with XOOPS 2.2.x. Cannot insert newly uploaded image in Image manager. Also cannot insert images in the 2nd (and 3rd, ..) page of Image Manager.

What a pity if xoops22_editor_fckeditor is abandoned. FCKeditor is recently voted as the best editor in SourceForge.

Actually, FCKeditor should be integrated into the XOOPS framework like Koivi editor.

BTW, davinci27 used your FCKeditor in his Content module and was able to enable upload and image brower.

Hi All

I finally found the solution. It took me 3 days!

Don't use the xoops22_editor_fckeditor.zip here.
Use the fckeditor from fckeditor.net, and do the modifications suggested here. AND copy the editor_registry.php over! Nobody says anything about this here!

But I can only upload using the Image Browser and not using the Upload tab.

Hope this will help others.

Now, I'm trying to include fckeditor in SmartSection. So far no luck.
Including fck in modules/smartsection/include/functions.php, and
including 'FCKEditor' => 'fck' in xoops_version.php and doing a module update didn't work. Produced blank page when I clicked on Submit article in Smartsection.

in functions.php

case "fck":^M
if( substr( XOOPS_VERSION , 6 , 3 ) > 2.0 ) {^M
if ( is_readable(XOOPS_ROOT_PATH . "/class/fckeditor/formfckeditor.php")) {^M
include_once(XOOPS_ROOT_PATH . "/class/fckeditor/formfckeditor.php");^M
$editor = new XoopsFormFckeditor($caption, $name, $value);^M

}^M
} else {^M
$editor = new XoopsFormEditor($caption, "fckeditor", $editor_configs);^M
}^M
break;^M

in xoops_version.php :

$modversion['config'][$i]['options'] = array('XoopsEditor' => 'default',
'Koivi Editor' => 'koivi',
'TinyEditor' => 'tiny',
'FCKEditor' => 'fck');

Has anyone had any luck getting fckeditor to work in SmartSection?

It is getting confusing, there are three "working" versions of FCKeditor out there:

1-The one that came with the Content Module
2-The one mentioned here, XOOPS Final 2.0
3-The current one at http://www.fckeditor.net

But only #2 works with SmartContent and it doesn't seem to support image or file uploading no matter what settings I change.

Has anyone made any progress on getting this working?

I posted this option in another thread here and in SmartFactory forum, but it seems that this has been applied and improved on the SmartSection 2.1 RC2.

If I'm not confused with so many FCKeditor, the one I'm using is your number 2 with the following changes:

Line 58 from fckeditor.php from $HtmlValue = htmlspecialchars( $this->Value ) ; to $HtmlValue = "{$this->Value}" ;

Path to FCKEditor: class/xoopseditor/fckeditor/

Hope it helps

Ok people!

After a lot of head eggs! And cups of coffee!
I finaly figured out how to get it working!

What to do:

1. Download the content module
2. Delete the ../content/admin/fckeditor directory
(because we want to make it compatible with the xoopseditor framework and is the old version)
3. Change in the ../content/admin/index.php file the following

<>
/* if ($xoopsModuleConfig['cont_wysiwyg'] == '1') {
$fckeditor_root = XOOPS_ROOT_PATH.'/modules/content/admin/fckeditor/';
include XOOPS_ROOT_PATH.'/modules/content/admin/fckeditor/fckeditor.php';
ob_start();
$oFCKeditor = new FCKeditor('message') ;
$oFCKeditor->BasePath = XOOPS_URL."/modules/content/admin/fckeditor/" ;*/
<>

<< start of new part>>
if ($xoopsModuleConfig['cont_wysiwyg'] == '1') {
$fckeditor_root = XOOPS_ROOT_PATH.'/class/xoopseditor/fckeditor/';
include XOOPS_ROOT_PATH.'/class/xoopseditor/fckeditor/fckeditor.php';
ob_start();
$oFCKeditor = new FCKeditor('message') ;
$oFCKeditor->BasePath = XOOPS_URL."/class/xoopseditor/fckeditor/" ;
<>

(this is the part where you tell the module to use the editor located in the fremework directory ../class/xoopseditor/fckeditor )

4. upload and install the content module
(remeber to change the preferences, of the module check the first 2 options to enabled, but wait to test the module till you completed the steps)
5. dowload the latest version of FCKeditor
6. in the fckeditor directory change in the fckconfig.js file the following lines

var _FileBrowserLanguage = 'php' ; // asp | aspx | cfm | lasso | perl | php | py
var _QuickUploadLanguage = 'php' ; // asp | aspx | cfm | lasso | php
(as you can see the values are now 'php' where the are set to 'asp' by default)
7. navigate to the fckeditor/editor/filemanager/browser/default/connectors/php change in the config.php file the following

set $Config['Enabled'] = false ;
to
$Config['Enabled'] = true ;
(this is done for security reasons)
8. repeat this for the config.php file found in the fckeditor/editor/filemanager/upload/ directory
9. delete all de directorys with a '_' in front of it and all the connectors (langueages) except the php directory off course
10. you are ready to upload the FCKeditor directory to ../class/xoopseditor/
(remeber to change the captions from FCKeditor to fckeditor for linux systems because they are case sensitive)
11. create in de XOOPS root the directory 'UserFiles' (remeber captions) CHMOD to 777
12. create in the 'UserFiles' directory anothet directory 'Image' (remeber captions) CHMOD to 777

NOW YOU SCHOULD BE ABLE TO CREATE DIRECTORYS AND UPLOAD TO THE ROOT (Image) DIRECTORY!!!

Take a note! It took me long to figure out, but when you are running PHP in safe mode it is not possible to uploade images to directorys created with the file manager. (for the technicians this is because the user ID differs from the owners id which is the FTP) You can though make a new folder using FTP and CHMOD to 777. If you do this you are able to upload images in this directory.

The solution to this problem is to login as FTP by using php and then create and chmod the directory. To get this working I changed the filemanager a little bit. (I made a custum folder creator)

After the modification it is possible to safe images in the created subfolders. ( because the subfolder was created by userID of the ROOT )

13. In the ../class/xoopseditor/fckeditor/editor/filebrowser/defealt/frmcreatefolder.html file replace the window.onload = function() (line 86) with this sligthly altered one.

window.onload = function()
{
if (window.top.IsLoadedCreateFolder == true)
{
window.parent.frames['frmResourcesList'].Refresh() ;
}
window.top.IsLoadedCreateFolder = true;
}
(this will refresch the window after you created the folder)

Also change the onclick= event in the html code (its at the bottom about line 100 after modification)

Change it to:

Very well documented but........

As a n00b,I got lost half way through.

On step 6, my file did not contain
"var _FileBrowserLanguage = 'php' ; // asp | aspx | cfm | lasso | perl | php | py
var _QuickUploadLanguage = 'php' ; // asp | aspx | cfm | lasso | php"

On step 7
should it stil have // infront of it

On step 8
my file did not contain
"$Config['Enabled'] = true ;"

From there, I just got confused and gave up.

I'm having problems with the CONTENT module itself anyway which I will post in the appropriate forum.
