I decided a while ago to try and create a theme that would be fast-loading, small in size, XHTML 1.0 HTML and CSS valid, and suitable for as many browsers as possible. The result looks a lot like what you might find used for a personal blog, so I called it blogstyle.

Features:
NO images whatsoever
Only 2 files - style.css and theme.html
W3C XHTML 1.0 HTML and CSS valid
11kb total file size (3kb zipped)
Fast load times - 3.92 sec for 56k connection.

I like it very much, but there are two problems with it:

1. It is missing

<{$xoops_module_header}>

- that will cause problems, especially with newbb

2. You should remove the XOOPS icon line

<link href="<{$xoops_url}>/favicon.ico" rel="SHORTCUT ICON" />

- you don't include an icon which means that the server log will keep recording that a resource was missing. It doesn't really matter, but I like things neat

The theme itself is great, I really like it!

Check the default theme to see an example

About the favicon, I forgot that the XOOPS one comes with the XOOPS core install - it's always the first thing I remove

So on a lot of sites it won't be a missing resource, and the problem I mentioned won't happen. It's up to you whether you want to remove that line - it might be an idea to just include a note about it in a readme or something, in case the user wants to use a favicon (either their own or the XOOPS one)?

Just a note to the Webmasters: the theme is in the library, but is not visible to registered users, only anonymous users. It seems there are more themes in this state of limbo. If you view the theme library start page, you have a list of "recent themes" showing. This list is different for registered and anonymous users.

Nice work Bassman.

I would suggest keeping the favicon line in the theme. If someone does a default install of xoops, I believe the favicon is included. If you feel compelled to remove it, perhaps just comment it out.

I wanted to let you know that the boxes in the left and right columns are not holding up in IE 5.5 for the Main Menu and Site Info Blocks (Login block is fine, which makes me think this is an issue that can be solved... probably just padding or spacing.)

Thanks Sunsnapper, I decided to leave that line in anyhow.
I never knew the theme looked like that in IE 5.5, I don't use it, I have IE6 if I need it. I tried to use IE Capture to look at it, but the site always shows "Overloaded, try again later".

I believe even this site looks weird in IE5.5 :)

That's understandable. Apparently, in the last six months, usage of IE 5 flavors have dropped significantly. Perhaps 2005 will be the year I finally stop testing against IE 5.5

I've seen statistics for IE 5.X drop from over 15% usage to around 5% in 2004.

Currently I keep it on a machine for compatability testing.
