News 1.67 RC 1 ready for testing

The News 1.67 module for XOOPS 2.5.x is moving to RC 1 status. This module requires a lot of testing because is one of the most widely used modules and we don't want any bugs there.

Changes/additions:

- standard 2.5.0 GUI
- Selenium IDE test cases (coming soon)

Anyone willing to help with writing a Tutorial for it using our Wiki?

You can download it from here

Please test it and let me know if there are any bugs, and if it is consistent with the other modules.

Also, any improvement suggestions on the module files/directory structure, are appreciated

Translators are encourage to translate this module into local languages.

Re: News 1.67 RC 1 ready for testing

hi'

I'm a little disappointed...

News 1.66 was just a quick fix to make it works with Xoops 2.4.x while xNews 1.71 is a real step forward :
- url rewriting
- clonable
- Spotlight block
- ... and many other little things

Why we should test an older version ?
Why don't you start your update from the lastest version ?
Is there a real problem with xNews ?

Sorry if I've missed some important informations and thanks for response and your work around this "must have" module

It's all about time and resources

We want to have the "Basic Module Pack" done soon, so new XOOPS users can have something nice and easy to work with.

The xNews developer doesn't have time right now to continue, and it would take too much time for Voltan to work full time on it.

So we thought that we'll use News for the "Basic Module Pack", and once released, we'll focus on merging News with xNews, and we'll be also looking at AMS and some of the cool features there, as it seems that it is not being actively developed.

So the plan to work on xNews is definitely there

But we need help from the community!

If you help us with writing the documentation and testing, then we can focus on other things, like development
If you help us with development, we'll get faster to the release.

This release is basically only Admin GUI conversion with some minor changes.

The next release will focus on merging News, xNews, and potentially AMS. To make future updates easy, it will continue under the name "News".

But again, we need the help from the community! Let's make it a broad "community project" with a lot of people contributing, so we can have a cool News module very soon.

Who wants to join the "News team" to make it happen?

Like this project!

I'm with you with french translation ! I won't be able to help on development points :(

Could we also add a function to create blocks as "menus" (with clone option) where we could select categories/articles to link (please have a look to fm content wich has an interesting concept for it...)

Since Voltan is the one working on fmContent, and he will be working on News as well, then everything is possible

But not in this release. Let's think about "News 2.0"

Why you do not ask each medium they realize a national news to warn their members that xoops is looking for a developer, tester?

Re: News 1.67 RC 1 ready for testing

I am using this on my production site and it is thankfully working great. I LOVE the social media incorporated into each article.

Is there a way to add the persons Avatar or picture of them in the whos who page? sadly im not a coder:(
