Site Transfer Questions

I have been forced to move my site from my prior host, because. quite frankly, they have fallen off the face of the earth. Their own SSL certificates expired and I refuse to update credit card info on a naked connection.

With that said, I have downloaded and then uploaded my site from them to godaddy (I read some things about them, but that was 3 years ago), also downloaded the databases.

Other than a quick change to mainfile.php to point at the new root, all went ok, it seemed:

1. Can't save jack... can't change a setting, can't post
2. I can't even log in now!
3. another error I will have to share once I fix the other problems...

Thanks!!

You probably had an old version of XOOPS and an old version of PHP, and your new server is using a new version of PHP.

If this is correct, you would need to upgrade XOOPS to a new version, like XOOPS 2.5.6, but you would need to first check your modules and make sure that there are new versions that are compatible with XOOPS 2.5.6.

If you're looking for a good server, Arvixe is excellent (we're hosted by them).

Re: Site Transfer Questions

Thank you for the feedback.

I am running 2.5.4, so yes, it is old.

The MySQL was 5.1.73 on the old host, 5.3.34 on the new.

PHP was 5.3.19, is now 5.4.24.

It still does not explain why when I push the "User Login" button, that the screen simply cycles and I can't log in.

Not being able to log in means I can't go in and run update... I can do pretty much everything except log in and when I could, I couldn't save posts.

Download the latest 2.5.6 and follow the upgrade instructions and you should be OK.

Hopefully 2.5.7 should be in final form soon and suggest moving to that but you should be OK for now with 2.5.6 until that happens.

Also you need to change the settings in the secure.php file that resides in I believe it is the xoops_data directory. (If not its xoops_lib. I am at work so can't look to be sure.)

The mainfile.php has the file paths in it. The secure.php has the database information in it and you have to change both files.

Re: Site Transfer Questions

I tried to update the secure.php... and still no updating...

I am going to do a clean slate install, and manually migrate the data across.

I have 2.5.4 and it has a red "X" next to the upgrade option. I think be screwed.

What have you done so far? Can you describe your steps?

Re: Site Transfer Questions

1. backed up the site using filezilla to my local PC.
2. uploaded the site back to the new host
3. exported the old db from the original host, did so in three chunks due to size
4. imported the three chunks, in order, to the new host
5. edited both Mainfile.php and Secure.php.

I think step 4 is my problem. I am going to do the export again, this time in more chunks. Chunk 2 proved to be very large and it didn't finish importing properly. The screen simply went white...

Sometimes helps to be awake and pay attention to little details...

apparently, 10 tables did not survive the transfer.

Please hand me my sign.

Lesson #2... screw the Private messages... I don't need 1.5 million of those suckers floating around. So there.
