I have several email addresses that are no longer active, I have a number of customers who are still trying to mail me with these addresses, is there somewhere an option to add a reference (link) to the appropriate active email adress

If you still have access to the domain, to which they are sending those emails, then just go there to an "Email" section and create a "forward" entries, pointing to your new email address.
