Hello.
I have xoop 2.5.1 installed on a freebsd server.
I am trying to use the Xdirectory (Yellow Pages) to list Businesses.
I can not add businesses or do anything for that matter.
From the website I can go into the module and put information in, but there is nothing in the Admin Panel showing that there is a listing added. I can not even get in to add categories.
I looked over the module information online here and could not find anything to help me. I thought maybe I needed to do a chmod on a directory somewhere but to no avail.
Please help me here.

thank you,
Amy

I look into it next week when I get back to USA.

In the meantime you can take a look into the version from SVN on Source Forge and tell us if it works better

Hi again,

Come to find out that the email does not work in this module.
Instead of coming to an email page, I get a blank page. the map works great but not the email. The contact module works fine with emails. So I do not think that its how the email is set up.

Any ideas?

thanks again,
Amy

The module xdirectory is very old. You probably should not use it unless you know how to fix code.
You should be using mxdirectory. That replaced xdirectory YEARS ago.

I don't know why mamba wasted his time updating the gui on that module. Believe me xdirectory is on of my favorite modules and the one that got me started with fixing code. And I still use it on almost half of my sites. But as a community module, its days are over.

For an example look at the file contact.php file. it is all hard coded. Look at the file mailcenter.php it is from a very old myads module.

You really need mxdirectory.

Hope this helps,

John

It was just a short exercise testing a module conversion.

I am sure that we'll be working soon with Zyspec on mxdirectory, as he was originally helping with the development.

I had lot of bugs by using mxdirectory in a commercial website, then I uninstalled it and I uploaded TDMDownloads, after doing a small changes in singlefile.php to dont let the upload file a required field, and I used it as a directory module.
Now in the new version of TDMDownload (if you need to use it alternative module) you can add for each listing : a picture, unlimited extra fields(phone, address...etc), also there is a rss feed and extended search
the road of success is always under construction

Ok.. I took your advice and uninstalled xdirectory and installed the mxdirectory. Now I get a white page when linking to it from the home page. <SHRUG>
What did I do wrong?
Does someone have a good link to the download?

thank you,
Amy

AmyMarie,

I am sorry I forgot about mxdirectory 3.0.1. I never used it, I stopped at 2.0
I think. I do not like 3.01 at all. I don't like the way it was written at all.

Since I messed up I will make it up to you.
Uninstall mxdirectory. Reinstall xdirectory and I will help you fix it.
Like I said I use it on about half of my sites and they are all running Xoops 2.5.1

I can't just give you a copy of mine because of many changes I made that would be useless to most people. But I will help you fix all errors you find.

The only thing I need to know is if you use English Language on your site.

If you need to contact me you can at jlmzone.com

Sorry again,

John

I have a better Idea than my last post.
I guess if mamba updated the gui of the module I guess I will get all the bugs out.
Give me a couple days.

See mamba knew he wasn't wasting his time.

John
