XOOPS Version: 2
Module Name/Version:
PHP Version:
MySQL Version:
Web Server Software (Apache/IIS/Other):
Operating System:
Theme you are using: zetagenisis
Custom template: (Yes/No) NO
PHP Debug Messages:
MySQL Debug Messages:
Smarty Debug Messages:
A full description of the issue:

I am trying to load a theme I pulled from the XOOPS THEMES link that saves in .zip format.

When I try to upload the theme via my XOOPS admin area, it has a note that says "file must be in .tar format.

Do I need to convert the .zip into .tar?

if so, what is te best way to do so?

Thank you.

hi'

Are you trying to install a new theme ? If yes, just follow this 3 steps :
• unpack zip (example : zetagenesis.zip --> /zetagenesis)
• put your theme folder in www/themes/ (you should have www/themes/zetagenesis/theme.html for example)
• select your theme in system preferences by choosing it in the firt list

That's all. If you do not see any effect, clear XOOPS and browser caches (restart it if needed).

I hope it helps, I don't really understand what you are trying to do ?

You can't upload your theme via XOOPS admin area. You have to unzip your file and upload the folder via ftp into your themes/ folder on the server side.

thank you both for the quick reply.

I followed both your instructions and was successful in loading a new theme.

are these themes able to be edited just as any normal web?

as long as one knows html , css etc.

if so, is this done before upload?

It depends on the facilities your hoster provides. If you have cPanel or Plesk etc, you have a file manager and editor. so you can make changes online. If not, you have to edit them on your PC and upload the modified files.

Yes, you may edit them like any other web page file. However, themes are more than just HTML and CSS and include Smarty as well. You'll want to start with the FAQs on Themes.
