Upgrading from xoops 2.0.17 to xoops 2.3.x

Hi all!
I am running a huge website with a lot of data and 20 modules. I am having XOOPS 2.0.17 installed, I want to upgrade to the most recent stable version of XOOPS (2.3.x), is there a way I can test my site with it without loosing any data and testing my modules. I am not much experienced with codes, so there is no option to take any risk.
Please guide, thanks.

I would use wamp:
http://www.wampserver.com/en/

Then I would download the entire site backup and install it on localhost.

If I have big sql to dump then I would use Bigdump:
http://www.ozerov.de/bigdump.php
