XOOPS not sending registration mail

I can send mail through XOOPS using the send mail function. However when a user registers, it's not sending the activation e-mail.

Any thoughts as to how to troubleshoot this? I am running XOOPS 2.3.3, but this has been upgraded so many times I've lost count. See my registration date on the left here to get an idea. Does having all these extra files from old installs make a difference?

As long as all the new ones are present, this should not be a problem.
Do the file check (see release notes) to see if all are present and correct.
The md file (but certainly the ZIP archive) should give you also the list of needed files.
