Hi XOOPS Gurus,

This is my first experience with Xoops, I have XOOPS v2.2.6. I uploaded the Cloud theme to my directory and when I selected it, I got this frightening error

Error [Xoops]: Smarty error: [in /home2/xxxxx/public_html/xxxxx/themes/Clouds/theme.html line 26]: syntax error: unrecognized tag 'xoImgUrl' (Smarty_Compiler.class.php, line 566) in file class/smarty/Smarty.class.php line 1084


I already did some search on the forum but didn't find any solution to the error I have. I would appreciate if someone could really help.

This theme seems to be not compatible with XOOPS 2.2.x

You should upgrade core (Xoops 2.3.2 is the last stable release). For many reasons but above all because "nobody" use XOOPS 2.2.x anymore !

If this is your first experience with XOOPS, how did you end up with 2.2.6 version? You should be starting with 2.3.x .

The 2.2.x is a "dead-end" branch, and you should start with 2.3.x. If it is not urgent, you can wait for 2.3.3 to be finalized soon (in testing right now)

unrecognized tag 'xoImgUrl'
You can replace these tags by the theme url (http://www.yoursite.com/themes/cloud/). (Don't forget to remove the end tag of it.)

There are still a lot of 2.2.x sites in use. Up to now 2.3.2b lacks still a lot of the features that the 2.2.6 version offers for years.

Probably his hoster offered it as installable software for his site in eg cPanel.

There is nothing wrong with the 2.2.x series. Only one important point: for additional security, make sure to install the Protector module!

Mamba,

V2.2.6 came with my hosting service (canaca).

Currently Cpanel only offers XOOPS (2.2.6) on their panels, I recommend you to wait till Cpanel upgrades to XOOPS 2.3.2 then you can safely upgrade your installation of XOOPS via your account's panel.


I tried to upgrade to the latest but failed due to a HTTP Error 500 - Internal server error. I am very upset from the service of my hosting company knowing that I am stuck now, I need to upgrade but can't and I don't want to continue with the v2.2.6.

There should be no reason that you can't update your system with the normal manual procedure. If you do not have content yet (very new install), you could also delete all and retry with a clean install, which runs easier than update.

If an update is needed, I would wait for 2.3.3 final.
