By editing the template for the block and/or the theme css file.

can u explain more? where in the CSS? coz i tried but it didnt work

find:
#mainmenu a {
and
#usermenu a{

in this lines add "display: block;"

it will looks like:
#mainmenu a {display: block; margin: 0; padding: 4px;}
